Here is part one of my review of the CCI Stinger .22 Long Rifle "hypervelocity" load. Part one is a bench top review and examination of the round. Featuring a 32 grain hollow point bullet and specified 1640 feet/sec velocity this is one of the highest speed loading of the .22 Long Rifle. In part 2 we will see if the accuracy and velocity match the advertised claims.

this is the only ammo i can use in my beretta 22. handgun,i believe i read that cci stingers are a hot firing round,and its the only ammo that didn't misfire in my gun. highly recommended !

@314299 the manual that came w/ my 10/22 said not to use stingers cause they are longer & may stovepipe. didn't say anything about bolt bounce (i doubt 22s suffer from that). I gambled that the extra energy would eject it clean away as the only stove piping i WAS suffering was from lower powered rounds. havent had any problems & CCI Velocitors give a stronger recoil than stingers & i shoot a lot of those too.

Stingers have the same chamber pressure as the 22 high velocity 24,000 psi. You can shoot the stinger in the standard 10/22 carbine. The casings are longer to make up the length of a 22lr because the stinger only has a 32g lead

Note that Ruger only states to avoid the use of Stinger ammo in both the Tactical and Match Grade configurations of the 10/22 rifle. It's due to the chamber type as you've stated. The 10/22 user manuals say nothing about avoidance of Stinger ammo in the other sporting configurations of their 10/22 semi-auto rifle.

I have to agree with this. Stingers group quite well out of my CZ511,but the Velocitors are something else. Only downside to both types are they're really noisy even with a sound moderator (supressor) fitted. Quite handy though when you want to push the boundaries out a little further than normal when shooting rabbits.

I just tried the stingers the cartridge gets stuck in my .22 ruger so my suggestion is using the CCI .22 lr Velocity rounds

CCI Velocitors are better than stingers. Velocitors maintain their energy due to heavier bullet weight, have better accuracy and less prone to wind drift. After ~10 yards, velocitors have more energy than stingers. Stingers energy at 100yds: 81ftlbs, velocitors: 104.

i think the Ruger warning has 2 do w/ the fact that the case is longer... the concern is 'stove pipng' (case gets stuck in the ejection process) BUT I use them in my Ruger w/ no trouble. I would never use them in a match barrel. Good video !! this is why i subscribed.

@314299 ok, i looked @ my manual and it doesn't say anything about stingers and stovepiping any where. i must have read that somewhere else. but mine is not a TARGET 10/22 it's standard.

I run these as well as the Aguila Hyper velocities in my henry 22 with no issues, but then again I can run any .22 with the exception of .22wmr in it. Great .22 platform and accurate.

Great review on the Stinger ammo.i fired five rounds through my .22 Walter p22 pistol a few weeks ago,a word of advice to anyone who reads this comment {DON'T} I cracked the slide and at the moment the Walter is totally out of action until i get a replacement slide. Do you reckon it would be Ok to use the Stinger in a Bruno .22 rifle ??? Yammo12.

I have a Ruger 22/45, i called Ruger an talked to someone over quality control to confirm it would be safe to shoot the stinger in my 22/45. I was told it was safe to shoot the stinger or any other .22 ammo made. I have been shooting stingers in it for 20 plus years, never a problem.

Sir, I have 20 + year old CCI Stinger ammo, is it the same grain as the new CCI Stinger ammo of today ?? There is nothing on the boxes of the old ammo to specify !!

good rounds but the cartridge gets stuck in my .22 after shooting so I'll have to go with the Velocity

The 10/22 problem is from the steel stopper wearing down aluminium the action and eventually cracking it. I'm having a qualified gunsmith replace this stopper with a less aggressive material. He actually converted his to a 17 HR mach 2 going at 2000fps using a new stopper and it works fantastically. But back on the stingers, there's no point having a gun if you can't put the best ammo through it, and stingers are the best 22 out there.

I would check in your manual or with the manufacturer, if they dont mention it you ought to be fine shooting it.

Personally if I had a Winchester 77 I would shoot them. You could always contact CCI and ask them.

Probably, but I think the short barrel of that pistol would not be a good way to use a round which really needs a decent amount of barrel to get the velocity it is known for.

Or he could use Aguila interceptor 40gr HP the do solid points as well, the have as much muzzle energy as Stinger's but of course a heavyer bullet.

They're not a ragged-hole cartridge by any means, I agree, but they grouped within minute-of-rabbit at up to 50 yards in my CZ452, and that was good enough for my purposes. CB caps OTOH - now THOSE flew all over the place. I'd hoped to use them for short range practice, but even at 25 yards it was like firing a shotgun one pellet at a time - the only CCI ammo that rifle didn't like.

My cz 452 American had a short target chamber. In my opinion the cz bolt action rifles do best accuracy wise with standard velocity and or target grade long rifle ammo.I am sure that the stinger case protrudes into the rifling on the cz.If you have good luck with shooting them more power to you but I have never been impressed with stinger ammo accuracy wise.Also the bore on my cz was noticeably tighter than the normal run of the mill .22.It was very noticeable when cleaning.I shot many .25 groups at 50 yards with wolf match target ammo.Also the now log gone pmc scoremaster.

if its a cz 452 I wouldnt. It has a target chamber and extra tight bore.

I asked Marlin directly about this; I have both the model 60 semi, and the model 80 bolt action. They said to definitely NOT to fire this in the 60.

Bobby McGuyer I've fired over 1,000 of these rounds out of my model 60 (used it exclusively in the 90s). I haven't had an issue. Does it prematurely wear out the barrel?

I recently bought a Marlin bolt action repeater, and I tried several brands, velocities, and bullet combinations. and above all including the "stingers" the CCI mini mag gave me the accuracy that I expect from this little tack driver. All of the talk of "best" hunting round...is silly......it is ALL SHOT PLACEMENT. I know a man who took an elk with a .22. (ILLEGAL and rightly so, It was a long time ago, in desperate times and the man was a "hunter")

These rounds are great for pistols. I am lucky to get a 6 in. group at 100 yards out of a rifle with these, however.

The manual on the Ruger 10/22, page 17 warns specifically NOT to use the Stinger because of the shell size difference. Check it out in your manual.

hi mate, i wasnt having a go at you or your vid but IMO stingers are a waste of money and ive tryed them in all 6 .22 rimfire rifles ive owned, the best grouping i got was with a cz 452 at about 80 yards ( ish ) giving about a 2 1/2 inch group , thats not for me i like a tighter grouping. i found the remington yellow jackets to be far better giving me about a 1 to 1 1/2 group using the same rifle. but everyone has his or her choice to use what they deem best i guess . Nice vid Shawn, I also read that such high velocity rounds are no more effective from barrells shorter than 45cm than standard velocity rounds as Stingers would not achieve the designed velocity in a short barrell. Different theme, I once remember firing a Remington Yellow Jcket in my TOZ-99 and a case head separated and flew away, good that I had my Swiss army knife and extracted a ruptured case with a corckscrew. Heard a lot that CCI Stinger delivers more on-target energy than a .25 auto.

The best thing about the stingers is the BANG after that they are inaccurate, a waste of money. they fly all over the place in any Rifle.

the cci stuff does not work well becuse its going too fast not i bet if you had a barrel for .22 long rifle(.218" bore and .222" groove) that was say 1 in 9 or even 1 in 12 it work be better

Either round will kill a varmit. Being a rat or even a small dog and getting hit with a .22 would be like getting hit with a cannon.

These fly like a nuckleball. Highly innacurate. I've tested all CCI .22 with multiple rifle brands. The cci Velocitor is/was the most accurate and also way up there in fpe. Stingers are crap.
