CDK Global, one of the largest providers of dealership management systems to the automotive industry, suffered a serious cyberattack that has brought operations to a halt for thousands of car dealerships across North America.
CDK Global provides cloud-based software-as-a-service platforms that dealerships rely on to manage critical aspects of their business, from customer relationship management to vehicle financing and paperwork processing.
Over 15,000 dealerships have configured permanent VPN connections to CDK's systems to allow local devices to access these important applications remotely.
It was around 2 AM last night when employees first noticed problems accessing the CDK systems. Dealers started losing access to CDK's systems.
Then they got an email from the company saying there was a "cyber incident" but no other info. Next thing you know, CDK shuts down its entire infrastructure - data centers, phones, all the cloud apps, everything! They went into full lockdown mode but dealers were left in the dark.
