I have done long stretches of the AT and have spent some time with through hikers and for some reason many of them did the same thing, cold soaking. Since my stove BRS and Toaks pot weigh nothing, I really don’t get it but for many it’s a thing. No hot coffee leave me out. He is carrying that Anker and for his needs it’s a must buy it’s super heavy. He is very light but because he films his light gear is made heavy carrying all If his filming gear. I also don’t know how he does water carry’s with that pack. Desert travel with eight liters must be brutal. He does it and he is young.

Darwin, i did glacier NP in late july a year or two back and on some of the trails i really wished i had an ice axe like that. There are sections where the trail crosses chutes of snow which are very sketchy. Also make sure to bring gps (i like gaia app) because the snow covers the trail and it’s easy to get lost/disoriented. hope this helps! enjoy!

Can you please explain the dramatic shift in handling of your Waymark EVLV pack on the channel? This is an item that you've touted on numerous occasions and have been very public about having helped co-design. Would definitely appreciate some transparency in why you've gone to de-branding all of your Waymark items (which you're still using) and actively NOT linking to their site in your gear list.
@benhikingoutdoors1632

I agree-- as much as he publicly vouched for the Pack that he helped design.(and many subs bought) there should be some transparency on his end with his subs on the move away from them.
@willek1335
@willek1335 3 жыл бұрын
>Not sponsored. >Payed for the pack. >Now that we're past that. Perhaps he doesn't want to go into it (now). In the delicate balance between transparency and privacy, I don't feel entitled to an explanation. Too much transparency can make me feel vulnerable and exposed. When that happens, I tend to conceal what I've done that deviates from normal procedures, so I don't have to explain it. Healthy boundaries can be necessary. Between him and other YTers/companies, giving feedback and evaluating, and experimenting in various projects. I feel like I trust his judgement. Thank you.
@benhikingoutdoors1632
@benhikingoutdoors1632 3 жыл бұрын
@@willek1335 I understand what your saying, but disagree when it comes to this specific situation. That pack is something he has promoted over and over on his Channel. Its a pack he co-designed. There is no telling how many of his subs bought that pack specifically becauase its something he promoted/Co-Designed. The shift away from them and de-branding something he previously promoted I think he should be transparent on plain and simple.
@MySoCalledAdventures
@MySoCalledAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
@@benhikingoutdoors1632 I disagree that he NEEDS to tell us anything, most likely there was a brand deal and the company and him are having a disagreement. Obviously he still likes the pack and it is a wonderful pack...he is just not driving people to them anymore. If Darwin wants to tell us, he will...if not we move on. (not from Darwin, but from the question)

@@MySoCalledAdventures he doesnt have to tell us anything, completely agree. My view point is this is his YT channel where he stood behind a product and now all of a sudden their dead to him(least it seems that way). Right now niether of us know the actual story. Darwin!!! I discovered you and your channel back in 2019. Now I don’t know if you’ll get this comment or read it, yet I had an idea. I have yet to find a thruhiking KZfaqr that has done the 4,000+ mile North Country Trail. I have always wanted to do a thru hike and the NCT is my ultimate goal because I’ve lived in four of the states it runs through. I just can’t afford to do it. Anyways… It would be awesome to see you take on the challenge that is the NCT.

Random question: I've noticed that you have a super clean tent in a lot of your videos. How do you clean the mud off of your tent after a super heavy rain storm? Are there any cool tricks or is it just a matter of experience?

Hey Darwin, what's the story with the de-branding on your pack? Also, happy trails and good luck!

Something changed for sure - it's normal for thru-hikers and other ultralighters to remove labels, excess straps, etc. to save weight, but he's shown it with the labels in other gear list videos. In the past, he's mentioned it by name and talked about how he helped design it, plus done a whole video on the pack. I'm not sure what the reason is, but now he didn't name the pack or brand, didn't provide a link, and removed the label. He certainly doesn't owe us an explanation, but I'm definitely curious - if he's doing this for a specific reason, maybe others who were previously considering the pack should look elsewhere.

It was very surprising not to hear the brand of the pack when everything else still had the manufacturer names, even the cold soak jar!

Darwin, Thank you for all of your creative content, videos, and reviews. I really look forward to reach item you pay on KZfaq. I hadn't paid attention in the past videos to your camera gear, however, have you always called two cameras and your cell phone? What is the advantage of carrying two cameras vs one camera and a specialized lens? Safe travels and big days, Chris
