ഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്നും പേടകത്തിലേയ്ക്കുള്ള കമാൻഡുകൾ മെട്രിക് സ്റ്റാൻഡേർഡിലേക്ക് (ന്യൂട്ടൺ-സെക്കൻഡ്) പരിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യാതെ അത് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് യൂണിറ്റുകളിൽ അയച്ചതാണ് പേടകത്തിൻറെ പരാജയത്തിന് കാരണമായത് എന്നാണ് പിന്നീട് നാസ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. ഈ പിഴവ് മൂലം ഓർബിറ്ററിന് നിശ്ചയിച്ച ഭ്രമണപഥം നഷ്ടപ്പെടാൻ കാരണമായി.
