Newton is great and there is no denial of that. Also his hidden contribution in other entirely different fields mentioned here by Anish Mohan are also fully appreciated. That all go to prove that Newton is not only a scientist but also a genius. But there are also claims and counter claims. For example for Calculus, along with Newton, name of Lebenits is also equally or even more heard as its founder. Similarly out of the countless inventions attributed to the greatest inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, now it is agreed that a good number of them are actually by Tesla, who was least interested in making claims and taking patents! In ancient India too knowledge was freely distributed and never restricted by patents! In that context I cannot help mentioning here many claims found in ancient Indian texts. At least two, Laws of motion and Gravity, have strong evidence of existing much earlier. I reproduce them below with original Sanskrit verses and mention of sources. ‘Newton’s Laws’ of Motion “Vegah Nimittvisheshat Karmano Jayate” Meaning: The difference in velocity is caused by the force applied. (First Law of Motion) “Vegah Nimittapekshat Karmano Jayate Niyatdik Kriya Prabandh Hetuh” Meaning: The difference in velocity depends on the force applied and will be in the same direction as the force applied. (Second Law of Motion) “Vegah Sanyog vishesh virodhi” Meaning: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. (Third Law of Motion) These can be seen in “India’s Glorious Scientific Tradition” by Suresh Sony. ASIN B01F3QL932. (Page 28 & 29/329) (Please note that C.E means Common Era - Earlier known as A.D and B.C.E means Before Common Era - Earlier known as B.C) 'Gravity' “Aakrushti sakthischa mahee thayaa yath khastham guru svaabhimukham svasakthyaa aakrushyathe thathpathatheeva bhaathi same samanthaath kva pathathyayam khe” (Bhaskara II-Siddhanta Siromany Bhuvanakosham 6 -1114 CE) Meaning: This Earth attracts whatever solid materials are in the space, by her own force of attraction towards her (the Earth). All those subjected to this force of attraction fall, to the Earth. Due to equal force of attraction among the celestial bodies, where can each among them fall?) Note that this predates Newton by 550 years. ( Maharishi Kanaada also mentions this much earlier in his Vaiseshika Sutra (1.1.9 & 5.1.7). (600 B.C.E.) Similarly, the 3 laws of motion were originally propounded by Sage Kanaada more than 2 millennia before Newton did it in the west - in Vaiseshika Sidhantha, Prashthi Padam (200 BCE) For info of those interested. The 3 laws you mentioned here are not Newton's laws of motion. Velocity is not proportional to force. It is acceleration that is proportional to force. Velocity doesn't have direct relationship with force. Also what you mentioned is not the law of gravitation. Nothing here. Nothing on proportionality of mass of either objects or inverse proportionality to radius.

Sir..offlate a lot of "stories" like these are appearing in the internet. These are mere attempts to interpret a vast literature within india and correlate with science. If someone find a set of sentence that can be somehow interpreted as a phenomena in science they immediately claim that it is that scientific phenomenon whereas the whole context of such statements would be something else.. if we were ao scientific we would have conquered rhe world with science which didn't happened at all .. kings were rich thats all I would say .. all these statements are mere twistings of context for false claims off late published by hundutva vadis to unify hindu votes and the patry vouching for hindutva get all those votes .. to the extend that people saying darupadi had given birth using testube babies any fantacy of the past when realised using modern techology doesn't mean the party who wrote things in fantacy had it in real..
