Жыл бұрынIn this short video I show and describe the use of an articulating ceiling mount arm to hold the monitor and computer for my AVID CNC machine. This keeps the floor and benchtop clear of computers and cables, and allows viewing from a wide area in my shop.

This was actually such a good video to see. I've been thinking about monitor mounts and thought hey, I wonder if anyone has ceiling mounts and bam. Great video, thanks for sharing!

Great vid jim. the 5120 is pricey, making one could be an option. In my shop it has 8' ceiling so I don't have much clearance. It sure has a clean look and that dentist office feel. Keep up the innovative thinking . bs

Ya, I looked all over for affordable ceiling mounts for monitors and only found the expensive "medical grade" ones. I almost started building one instead, but then ran across this used one on ebay.

Awesome job Jim... as always. I ended up going the Robert Cowan route and making the arm attached to my Avid. In hindsight this would have worked much better in my small shop. I will keep and eye out for a used ceiling mount and might make the switch if the price is right. Also did you consider using a touch screen monitor? That's what I have and it makes it convenient for basic operations.

Yes, Robert's setup was one I considered too, but it took too much space up to the side as well. His is really nice if you have the room though. I did th ink about a touchscreen, but I like my screens clean, and the fingerprints on touchscreens always bug me (I know, I should just get over it 🙂).

Hello, is it possible to mount this arm onto dropped ceiling?

It needs something pretty solid to bolt too. So if its the panelized dropped ceiling thats hanging by wire, then typically you would build a frame or something above the panels to bolt the base to, and then install the drop panel around the mounting pipe.

Jim. You need to build a pendent to replace your mini keyboard. You can program the keypad for your needs. I'll send pics

Hey Mark, what do you use your pendant for? I can jog all axis' fast, normal, and incremental with the keyboard, and have emergency stop and keyboard short cuts for any code I write (like turn on/off the laser in test mode). What other stuff am I missing?

@@JNWoodworks You can do the same with the pendant. I think the pendant is easier to use and has bigger keys/knob for XY. Besides it was fun to build and program. :)
