Rachel Platten is the Emmy Award-winning singer-songwriter behind such hits as “Fight Song” and “Stand By You.” She is a powerful and emotional songwriter, and her music has inspired millions of people to stay strong and fight through even the toughest circumstances.
Rachel released her first two albums, Trust In Me and Be Here independently, but in 2015 she signed with Columbia Records and debuted her first single, “Fight Song,” which became the official anthem of Hilary Clinton’s 2016 Democratic presidential campaign. She also won a Daytime Emmy Award for her live performance of “Fight Song” on Good Morning America.
Rachel was born in New York City and raised in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. She began her musical career early by starting piano lessons at age five, and in high school, she picked up the guitar. After graduating from college in 2003, she moved to Greenwich Village and began performing with a Prince and Sly and the Family Stone cover band called Dayz of Wild. She also started performing her solo music and eventually started touring with her own music.
In 2010, Rachel married her husband, Kevin, and in 2018, they announced they were expecting a girl. In January 2019, she gave birth to Violet Skye Lazan, and she’s been rocking both the stage and motherhood ever since.
Rachel has faced her share of challenges on her way to the top. She understands the hardships of trying to generate traction around her music and continuing to be a working musician and a new mother at the same time. Her story is inspiring, and I absolutely loved talking to her - I know you’ll love this episode, too! If you’re ready to learn how to tackle the challenges of mental health, motherhood, fame, and success, join me on Episode 1,028 with Rachel Platten!

I have needed her Fight Song when I went through my own dark nights of the soul as well. I was listening to that to overcome my almost giving up in life. I knew her from BETTER PLACE that kept me coming back to her.

Dear @rachelplatten I just wanted to say that your music has done for me what you intended it to be! Your song "Better Place" is the song that first introduced me to selflove.... Every time I teaches a dance class I would do a little meditation at the end and play this song so everyone could connect to themselves and be grateful for their body their work their emotions and grateful to be alive and this song is one of my 5 all time favorite songs because of how it connects me to gratefulness appreciation love and it healed parts of myself. thank you Rachel for putting it out there in the world your music truly has the power to heal! Thank you @lewishowes for doing your inspirational podcast!!!!! x laura

The believing you will fail is so good. Gives me permission to do things because my biggest fear is having anyone interact with it. I feel the need to share things but terrified of people actually interacting with it.

What a fabulous interview and enlightening content. Just learned fight song on guitar because I thought it was great when i first heard it. Throw out the following....my mam had to work and she provided the positive image for me during my career, i remember being loved and mostly i cherish the times we have had since i am fully grown.

This is great interview. I love the question, what would you create if you knew it was going to fail miserably even if it was something that you really loved creating? There is really so much freedom in that thought. These interviews always pull me out of some of the darkest places. Exactly what I needed to get back to writing my book. Keep doing what you do! Both of you are so inspiring.

i did it with 3 alone. Remember, you are teaching her to be a Mom, a Passionate soul and a person. If you are gone, ask yourself if what you are doing is what you want your child to learn. I wanted loving, fearless children that seen I was human and seen I seen them as my equal. See your next three years and plan with daughter, parenting, dreams and life and accept it with Joy. Make bigger plans with all you want for longer That way you are prepared for waiting faces, instead of "sad you weren't there" faces. Love ya and you helped me

I Can relate to a lot of what Rachel platten is saying (20 min in ) I love to peform and write songs, plus i am a multi artist, i work volunteer as an artist where i give my work for free to others, and i peform whenever i Can, because i love it. I often feel like there is more to me, more i could or should do, it is exhausting to feel like that, and it is hard to break through. But i know i impact atleast one every time i peform, and i like i Can peform without competition because it is only stressfull. So i get the love from the crowd without stressing too much about where it is going. It is a hobby. But it is soo hard to break through as an artist!! The reason i wanted to write songs was that when you go through as much as i have, it is great to know that that one song Can make someone else’s Day better. (I work Daily with video and photography)

I feel ego is our Social identity...the personalities we create in relation to our relative reality at that point in time to be accepted...Its both the victor and the victim identity...The vessel that sees the difference between black and white and yet can be the vessel to see that it's in essence the same thing...Its the vessel that recognizes that time is our relative construct but also intuitively knows that it cosmic reality time is timeless and even space is spaceless... It can be a potential for huge growth or even for self sabotaging....

Ego drives innovation and technological advancements, but at the same time it is the bane of humanity's existence and peaceful co-existence. It is behind people's need to be "right" all the time, and to feel superior or inferior to others. It is behind so much of the conflicts and wars in the world.

my 3rd kid. was fantastic, my first felt led, i just followed. my third I delivered myself (dr. was there in case my son too slippery). Man o man, My first took 7pm one night until 7:26pm the next. My son took a couple hours from first pain (that caused a pause) until delivery. It was amazing The trick is to watch and be in charge ( once the head crowns, take charge). Roll around before then. Give yourself permission to be a baby for the last time and care less about all others. Then, when someone sees a scalp, sit up and be a Mom.

Sorry if you are unfamiliar with the Graffics of motherhood. Yet, it is a daily part of womens lives around this world, that many disregaurd and teach us to be beautiful and flowy. THERE IS NO FLOWY AND BEAUTY THAT IS A PHOTOGRAOHABLELE PICTURE TO BE POSTED (NOT YET ANYWAYS) ON SOCIAL MEDIA. WOMEN ARE TAUGHT THIS IS UGLY. WHAT IF IT WASNT.

what do you lose when you lose the sight of the mass? Not embarassing!!! You will always be amazing. I tell KZfaqrs all the time, you are trully only recording for one person. Yourself. So, you shouldnt be embarrassed if you lose others, you still have you and at least one person who sees. What others think is our business...not yours.

What does it matter if you have money when you do not know God, when you do not fully know Jesus Christ. It’s not about the ego... it’s about sin, please know when you are sinning, read the bible and pray daily. This life is short, eternity is forever. You will either go to Heaven or Hell, do you honestly know where you are going? The devil wants you to be distracted with things of this world (personal accomplishments, idols, manifesting, personal appearances, etc). Please don’t let this world distract you from God, this is all temporary, it’s not worth it.
