We talk through Celebrity Cruises Selling Two Cruise Ships and we CANNOT believe which two ships they are selling! What happens when an active cruise ship is sold? Is Celebrity Cruises doing the right thing? What will happen to already booked cruise passengers for future sailings on these two cruise ships? Is Celebrity Cruises offering compensation packages to everyone onboard these cancelled cruises? Are other cruise brands such as Royal Caribbean to Carnival Cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Cunard soon to sell cruise ships too? This is the latest cruise news in tandem across the cruise industry where all cruise lines are making cruise cutbacks for cruise passengers onboard cruise ships during 2024 we ask the question- should the cruise lines sell more cruise ships instead of providing cruise cutbacks?! What do cruise ships do with already booked cruise passengers who now have their cruises canceled? How are Cruise Ship Crew handled? Are cruise ship passengers okay with cruise lines selling cruise ships? We talk through these Sold Cruise Ships as well as if this means more for cruise ships such as the worlds largest cruise ship Icon of the Seas or soon to be Star of the Seas 2025, to be on the horizon. This could happen to any Cruise Ship but unlikely to happen with the Worlds Biggest Cruise Ship Class or the newest cruise ships. What are your thoughts on this story and the Celebrity cruise ships sold 2024?

I was a loyal Celebrity cruiser with nine under my belt. Recently however, their business practices have become extremely unsavory. Their hands always out charging for amenities that used to be included in your cruise fare. Additionally, I don't care for the new EDGE class of ships AT ALL. Solstice class was much better. The final straw is that they don't enforce the adults only area so there is literally no place to be on deck with our children. Returning to HAL or a luxury, adults only brand in the future. Always have a lovely experience on Holland America.

I use to adore Celebrity. But, I have not been pleased with LHBs direction. She is ruining the brand. She has tried to change so much. But luckily, she has backed off on some of the 'improvements' that she made. She seems to be trying to make Celebrity into a Royal Caribbean. Celebrity fills a notch between RC and SilverSeas.

Just did a TA with Celebrity, was very disappointed. The concierge class has lost all its special perks. Never saw my concierge who was supposedly in an office on the fifth deck if I needed her? The food was very basic, the fantastic buffet I’m used to was no where to be found. The liquor package stinks now, $10 or under for the drink package and the average drink was 14-17. Had to spend the extra 250 a person to get drinks. No more hot cookies to be found. They were old pre baked cookies. The same exact breakfast food every morning. Nothing special. Don’t even get me started on the terrible entertainment. I’m going to be sticking to NCL until they go back the way they used to be.

Celebrity Cruise Line making changes is why we haven't cruised on Celebrity in a while. Our last trip on Celebrity Cruise Line was less than memorable. Although, we did like The Lawn Club Grill. Like the Celebrity Millennium Class ships. Celebrity also charges single cruisers almost three times the amount as a double. Don't think will be sailing on Celebrity Cruises anymore. Subscribed even before the end of the video.

I agree with you totally. I have been disappointed with the changes that the new president has made for Celebrity. Celebrity used to be very all inclusive and now it feels like we are nickel and dimed every day on Celebrity. I don't look just at Celebrity cruises anymore due to this. I know that I am going to be asked at meals and in all areas for me to spend more money. We were on the Celebrity Solstice for 30 days in March and April 2024 and almost every meal in the dining room someone came to our table trying to sell us the specialty dining. In addition, at every turn, things that used to be included were an additional price now. We stayed in the same cabin this time as we stayed in 6 years ago and the cabin needs a lot of work. The inner curtains were removed and only the black out curtains remain. In the bathroom someone installed a temporary light, which looks like it has been there a long time now, and the main light does not work anymore. I referenced pictures from 6 years ago and this cabin (an aqua class cabin) has changed dramatically and not for the good. Our upcoming cruises are 16 nights on Princess, 30 nights on Holland America and 30 nights on NCL. If I am going to be nickel and dimed every day I may as well see what the other cruises lines are doing. Wish me luck.

To Happy and Ken : Your two comments are totally in line with mine. My last Celebrity cruise was last January. Ken, I felt like the CEO was next to me the entire cruise reaching into my wallet at every opportunity. The ship, Silhouette was dated and worn like the other Celebrity ships in her class. The nickel and diming was so prevalent this past cruise that I was looking forward to getting off the ship. Ken, I perhaps don’t have the lengthy cruises as you but I am in my 60’s and began cruising when I was 5 y/o with Matson Lines between Hawaii and California so I have a good idea of understanding cruising today. So for a complete 180 degree turn, I’m booked on the new Margaritaville Islander from Tampa this November after hurricane season ends. I’ll probably regret this but hey : What the hell. Celebrity is off my list until Madam President is replaced.

@@Gybing I’m having my doubts about Margaritaville Islander. My hope is that Margaritaville is a high end name for resorts and by the end of the year they will be moving in that direction when I am booked . Also, I live 30 minutes from Tampa so that influences me also. I expect this most likely will be a one and done. I really enjoy Celebrity but the current president is just SO WRONG for the brand. $24.00 drinks is just the latest from the Celebrity leadership.

It’s really about yield, not just profit. Profit means making a dollar. Yield is the percentage of profit and actual gross income smaller cruises just don’t get the yield for the amount of human hours put into a project, or a cruise in this case.

I literally think that cruises, airlines, hotels….are nickel and diming passengers to death, and it’s taking away from the enjoyment of the adventures we all want. In some cases, paying for a suite level like the Retreat or Neptune if possible is becoming a better proposition. My fear is that the cruise industry seems to be swinging away from the average citizen or family who save and go on a cruise, and instead, are really focusing on the suite folks. I’m also a fan of midsize ships, and am concerned about these mega size ships. Your videos are so terrific and honest!

@scottmiller7779

To be fair - the President of Celebrity most likely did not make this decision. It most likely was decided at the RCG corporate level and Celebrity was informed the ships were being sold. The Xpedition could not be operated at full capacity and both it and Xploration did not match the quality level of the Flora and were not able to operate profitably by all accounts. With sister brand Silversea operating the Silver Origin (which is a sister ship to Flora in many respects) RCG have the two premier ships in the region and the removal of older less deluxe, more costly to operate, ships from the Celebrity Expedition fleet should move pricing on Flora and Origin upwards. This may also open up the opportunity for RCG to order a sister ship to Flora/Origin for the Galapagos market in future.

I’m sorry calling the company National Geographic is disrespectful to its heritage. It’s Linblad Expeditions. Also small ships actually take less to make a profit. I know from working on a 100 passenger cruise ship it on took 35 passengers to make profit. People pay a lot of money to go on a little boat ride! You got to remember your paying for where you’re going and not what’s on the ship!

Same on most cruise lines and all hotels. The room has a cost so it depends if it is divided by one or two persons. Plus on a cruise, if only one in a cabin, the cruise line loses a person spending money onboard if only one in a cabin. Sad, but one has to look at it from their point of view too.

I just have to say, I came back from Alaska on The Edge last week. They are taking huge steps to break the reputation of being for an 'older' demographic. There were tons of late night activities, tons of kids activities, as well as the things that make them who they are. Enrichment series, etc. Truly something for everyone. The staff and crew were top rate. You can see Quantum Class bones in the design, but it wasn't as open at least imo.

Why would you be surprised that Celebrity would sell those two ships when they are the most logical ones? I'm confused. (Click click.) I've been on eight Celebrity cruises since 2009, and they were all in the Caribbean. Since when has expedition cruises been modern Celebrity's specialty? I think it's a good move, and the ship going to National Geographic sounds like a perfect fit. Celebrity can concentrate on their actually specialty of sailing with more Millennium class and larger ships. Some have rumor-mongered about the future of the few ships that didn't get the new livery.

We sailed on Celebrity the 10th time last fall. The food has taken a hit but nothing else did other than I noticed the Martini Bar crew were following a scrip. It used to be spontaneous fun, but not so much. Celebrity is becoming more and more another RCCL. I’m not sure if I sail with them again. I’m willling to try Silversea or Seabourn and not worry so much about nickel and diming. Selling two small ships reallly isn’t news to me. It’s really difficult to make money on small ships which are totally different to Celebrity’s main products, Solstice and Edge. Businesses that. Succeed do so in their niche.

Hi! Im from Ecuador (The Galapagos is part of Ecuador). I dont think Celebrity is starting to give up to the "expedition" market. But sadly the amount of tourism in our country has dropped quite a lot in the last few years so I think it might be more related to the demand and the fact that they are older ships. Flora might be enough for todays demand as well as Silver Origin which is part of Royal Caribbean group too. Hopefully soon we will see a twin of either Flora or Origin to join them!

I'm almost mad at how bad Celebrity has gotten for the price after experiencing Royal. The suite concierges really had their acts together and sent emails beforehand and at least once daily with a great summary of the next day. They didn't seem overworked like the Retreat concierges. And Coastal Kitchen rivaled Luminae for food choices and quality. But the service was so much better, quicker, friendlier. Celebrity dining is so long and drawn out. Personally, I prefer the Solstice class ships. We sailed on the Edge to Panama Canal and chose an aft balcony, which was wonderful. In August we’ll be sailing on the Beyond to the ABC’s in our first infinite Veranda, but we’re a little nervous about that setup. The reviews seem to be definitely love-hate and we’re not sure where we’ll fall. The MDR food has really declined and I hate being forced into specialty to get a decent meal. We’ve been on HAL the last two cruises and kind of feel that was now our go to brand. I’ve always thought of Celebrity as a step up from Carnival and Royal, but that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. We love NCL’s Prima class but the itineraries just don’t appeal and that’s a big part of choosing a cruise. We’ve done 19 cruises and still trying to find the perfect fit. Closest was NCL Encore post Covid at 50% capacity. Best food and entertainment of any cruise, but a huge no at capacity. The search continues…

I am a solstice class ship person. It seems the new ships are focused on families. We are 48 years old and prefer not to sail with a bunch of children. It is one of the reasons we choose Celebrity. I feel like they’re sailing away from Luxury which was also one of the reasons we did not mind paying as much as we do for Celebrity. I think they are going far from Luxury and are just becoming like the other Royal Caribbean ships just smaller

She is terrible. She needs to be sold like the ships! However I just came off of the Silhouette and was on her for 45 days. I have seen some positive changes. I just get the premium pkg and I don’t want to deal with up charges. We also spoke with the F & B director several times and he has made reference of some changes coming. If what he says comes true then it will be great. Will see by the end of the year if they do.

It is a business decision and there is nothing wrong with making a business decision. As a person who has no visibility to their business situation I will not have an opinion. The cruise business needs to make changes as necessary to succeed as a business. They need to balance that with keeping and attracting new customers. Happy it is not my job to figure out how to do that out.

I love Celebrity, but, they lost us when they stopped doing the Mexican Riviera.

We like Celebrity's perceived sharpened focus on core business markets. Also, we recognize that the cost of everything (we're Canadian so we mean EVERYTHING) is going up. We still feel the value is great compared to the world today and it's not realistic to compare to the pre-lockdown era or immediate-post-COVID "subsidized-get-you-back" offerings. If you like Celebrity's offering, what is better value for experience today? Our vote is simple - We have four future cruises booked with Celebrity. We're pretty happy with how our RCL shares are performing as well!

Right after the pandemic all cruise lines struggled with lost revenue. Royal and Celebrity are no exception and increased prices but offered less to passengers. These two cruise lines are all about loyality so at least at Celebrity eventually have brought back everything taken away from us. The great food and even better service are back as of this year. The loyalty perks are all back too! I assume the same probably happened with Royal Caribbean.

First, I’m a big fan of JJ Cruise. Your videos are both informative and entertaining. I am a Celebrity Elite Plus member and have noted the many negative comments about recent changes. I , for one, absolutely love the Retreat (a relatively recent improvement) which is hardly an RC experience. I also think recent changes to the Oceanview , Eden and the theater are all spectacular. While, except for Galapagos , I haven’t been that interested in expedition journeys, there is sooo much of the planet to visit covered by the bigger ships. I am currentIy booked on back to back cruises in Japan (Millenium) and Europe(Eclipse). I have sailed on Edge, Solstice and the now refurbished Millenium class ships and I feel each has its plusses and are wonderful experiences.

I dunno I think dropping these ships was kinda obviously going to happen under this leadership. You’re right they are seeming to try to aim the line at a more mass market and focus on upsell. These ships can’t entertain that possibility so they have to go. Honestly I’m shocked the Icon class isn’t Celebrity. There’s a Celebrity level price there and a focus on a more upscale feel, IMO, than most Royal ships. I think they could have launched it as Celebrity Icon and nobody would have questioned it.

I disagree Dan. I was a Celebrity regular until the new President took over. Icon is not a Celebrity ship. I don’t know any regular Celebrity customers that are looking for a Celebrity ship with 6 water slides , swings over the side wave riders and thousands of kiddies on their cruise.

@@thomasgeurtz1194 You already note that the new president has changed the line, so much so you aren’t a fan now. I really don’t think it’s much of leap to suggest they might consider something like that. And I could see them justifying it as providing competition with Disney in the family luxury market - a market they alone compete in Some of the Edge class vessels have a bit more thrilling attractions even. Keep in mind I don’t think Celebrity Icon would have had quite the same compliment of activities.

Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch. The ships in question being to Azamara, don't they? Maybe Azamara should get sold, period or folded into Celebrity itself. I haven't sailed Celebrity in a long time, but I do keep myself in step with wh a t goes on in the travel industry having worked in corporate travel and in the airline industry, 1978-1989 (Eastern Airlines)

These ships are not Azamara Ships. They are Celebrity Cruise Ships now sold to Nat Geo-Lindblad Expeditions. Azamara is no longer associated with Royal Caribbean Group.
