Hollywood wasn't about to reward a movie about the seedy underbelly of Hollywood -- the adult film business -- when they could reward Robin Williams for his Supporting Actor role in "Good Will Hunting" after he didn't yet should've won for "The Fisher King." Robin was great in GWH, don't get me wrong, but Burt should've gotten the Oscar for "Boogie Nights" IMHO. It's too bad he never got a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, like Peter O'Toole, before he passed away, as a kind of consolation prize honoring his better acting roles over the course of his career -- and I say this acknowledging that "Smokey and the Bandit" wasn't his best work, no matter how entertaining it may have been. His best work, that I've seen, anyway, is in "Boogie nights" and "Sharkey's Machine" -- with the original "The Longest Yard" ranking close up there.
