Journey to Hydroponics

Жыл бұрын

Celery is native to the Mediterranean region and ancient Greeks used the veggies as flowers to reward winners of athletic games. Today, celery is a part of many food recipes. All parts of the plant are edible and celery is a great source for fiber, vitamin A, C, K, Potassium, and high levels of several types of anti-oxidants.
So, welcome to Journey to Hydroponics! In this vegetable series, we shall learn how to grow celery from seeds, hydroponically.

Tried hydroponics, can't see the advantages, understand if there is limited space ?! Impossible to keep out algae & constantly check/refill water, pump, nutrients ?!

I think the main advantage is that with hydro-kratky (no pumps needed) and LED lights - I can grow veggies under a clean environment with cocopeat, especially for indoor gardening. I don't use soil and all the bugs that come along with it. I have no problems with algae as long as the containers are covered, and refilling allows me to visit the plants which I enjoy doing. Using nutrient solution saves me the worry I had before, unlike with soil, I always had to think about compost and fertilizer :)

is there minimum or maximum temperature for growing celery optimaly?
@journeytohydroponics6964

hi! My temperature under the bookshelf LED lights ranges from 25C/77F to 30C/86F and I do have a fan (no aircon) to circulate the air around the veggies. The outdoor balcony with afternoon sun gets to be around 32C/90F. I don't see any major difference between the celery grown indoors or outdoors, maybe because the supplier gave me a hybrid type that grows in warm weather. Depending on the variety, most celery prefer between 16C/61F to 22C/72F, which is a much cooler environment than mine.

hi. growing celery is quite challenging. aside from the nutrients formula, check also ph balance because that will also impact how the roots absorb the nutrients.
