Very nice run down on the telescope. Thanks for that. I am still in doubt whether to get a good beginner telescope, or maybe a good spotter scope that can be useful for other stuff than just looking into space instead. From what I have seen so far the beginner telescopes are great for looking at the moon, but most other things in the sky remain a bit faint and blurry, so it seems that one needs to spend a lot of money to get a semi-professional telescope, and some decent imagery of far away planets and stars etc.

HELLO Chris, enjoy your videos sir ! need assist again... I want to try my prime focus Nexstar 130 mod. tonight. I will be looking for the Leo Triplet /M65, 66 and NGC 3628. question, what eyepiece/power magnification would you recommend while first aligning the scope and then finding the targets named ? Using my Nikon D40 DSLR. Unfortunately my camera does not have live view screen. for now it's very difficult to not only see the target but focusing will be the issue as well. I received your message on how to focus on the brightest near star that way for now. I have ordered the Bahtinov mask and the motorized focusing aid. So, just for now, what eyepiece magnification would I need to start by finding the targets? I have a variety of eyepiece magnifications, 25, 17,13,9,8,6, 32 and a 2.3 Thanks again as always, Roy
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio Жыл бұрын
For align the 25 or 17. For finding object may be the 17 or 13 not sure. Also tonight the moon shouls be right next to the triplet so it will be washed out a bit and hard to find because with visual there hard to see in the first place. So when your trying to find then use averted vision will help. Averted vision is basicly loog for them off to the side and not directly in the center of where your looking.

thanks for this, I've been driving myself mad about which telescope to get and while I'd like to get an 8" telescope I'm intimidated spending that much money as a beginner. I've almost decided on this one and one reason is I like the idea of the 2" eyepiece. I'm thinking of getting a 2" Barlow lens, a light pollution filter some additional 2" eyepieces. If I like it I'll probably add the wifi attachment later. does this sound like the right track to you? thanks again.
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 4 жыл бұрын
Yes a 2" Barlow is a good idea and most of them have 1 1/4" adapters. Light pollution filters are great if your imaging but they cut down to much light for optical viewing and not really necessary for planetary imaging you can edit the light pollution to some extent out. I have found my Alt Azimuth mount is not great for DSO that's not to say a different one might do better than mine particular unit.

@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 6 жыл бұрын
I use mine on my apartment patio that about 4 1/2 feet out from the wall and its enough to slew around it and be able to look in the eyepiece. The spread on the tripod legs is just over 3ft and the scope stays with in that when slewing. The only issue i see is its a balcony and will be prone to the scope shaking when you or someone is moving around. I have used batteries just a couple of time and they lasted longer than i did and that was about 4 hours of viewing those nights i figure you would get about 6 hours, but i did use fresh batteries next time i went out. I have a power tanks for power.

Yes I have used a 2x barlow and it works good just can't track to take video for to long at that magnification things still pass fast across my field of view. Yes colamation might help as well. It could be just a cheep 2x Barlow also.

@@AstroPatio looking at the box now it is an Omni brand barlow, so I'm not sure if it's considered a quality piece or not. I believed it to be upon purchasing, if I recall correctly. @AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is true you cannot take very log exposure pictures of like deep space objects. I have gotten about 5 second exposures of M20 the Trifid nebula before the stars stared to have trails. You have to remember that this is a less expensive beginner’s telescope and mainly meant to be used for optical viewing and getting to know the night sky not really designed for taking still pictures. The tracking head alt/azimuth drive is not that accurate for long periods of time as a more expensive Equatorial mount would be. You can however take longer videos of the planets as long as you are not using like a 2x Barlow or larger. The more zoom the faster the objects moves across you field of view and harder for the tracking mount to keep up. I have used mine for 3 years now and learned about the objects in the night sky and have just upgraded my mount to an Equatorial to use with the SLT130 tube for better tracking and really getting into Astrophotography. This is an expensive hobby but I am learning as I go along and upgrading my equipment as I want to do more, baby steps. When doing planets its best to take video of the planets and stack the video for a good image of the planets. With about 3min of video you get more than enough individual images of the planet in stacking to get good, not the best details that you would get in a more expensive scope. With knowing this is a starter scope I have been very pleased with the results I have gotten with this scope.

Hi. I have this telescope and am new to telescoping. How can I view Saturn and other planets larger?
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 2 жыл бұрын
Of course use the smaller numbered Eyepiece to get closer views, you should have gotten 2 sizes. You can also get a 2x or larger Barlow Lens to attach between your eyepieces and the telescope focuser where the eyepiece goes. Also remember this time of year the planets are moving further away from earth so there getting smaller. Also for visual viewing if you got any filters to screw into your eyepieces different colors make different details on the planets pop out a little more kind of like they add contrast to different features. Clear Sky's and have fun looking at the view from our Blue Marble, and most of all have fun with your new scope. I enjoy mine.

The smaller mm eyepiece should make the planets bigger than you naked eye. Also this time of year the planets you could see with this scope are getting further away so it is getting to the point you may not be able to make out any detail on the planets, like the bands or great red spot on Jupiter with this scope while visually viewing. Also have you tried to put any colored filters on the eyepiece those can help with making out details like the bands, it knocks down the brightness your eye can not compensate for and helps with contrast.

This is a huge con when you can't point the scope manually and there are no Az/Lat scales on the scope stand. Plus the eyepieces which come with it provide the ridiculous magnification - even less then 80mm model - as a beginner you'll be quite disappointed if you don't have a Barlow 2x lens and other eyepieces. Plus the lack of the fine focus adjustment and inability to read messages on the hand controller when the text scrolls too fast... Oh well, shall bear with it and try to get the best of it. Thank you for the review.

It does a good job for viewing Planets, of course its no SCT at 2300mm but it still takes good video of nice bright objects like planets that you can stack and get very nice results. I thinks its a good starter and you can see larger fuzzies like Andromeda galaxy. One drawback to taking picture of deep space objects you have to use short exposure times, the tracking is not that accurate.

Yes you can but remember the scope is not like a more costly SCT or the Hubble with a longer focal length that fills more of the field of view with the planets, but you can see division in the color bands of Jupiter along with the moons. You can see Saturn and the rings fairly good. Its a great starter scope.

What telescope under 250USD would you recommend me for astrophotography?
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not the one to recommend I don't know enough about other telescopes but 250USD is not that much, you have to consider the mount and OTA into the equation. This one is good enough for the closer planets but not DSO. Here are some samples of what i have done with this scope. telescopius.com/profile/Blue_Diazo

I've got this telescope but when I look at things it looks no closer than using my eyes it don't seem to make any difference zooming . ? Maybe broken ?
@AstroPatio
@AstroPatio Жыл бұрын
You got to remember your looking at things very far away and it is a only a 500mm focal length, the stars are always pinpoints you don't notice the difference until you look at things like planets like Saturn and see the space between the rings and the planet or Jupiter and see the bands on the surface and the Galilean moons, you cant see things like that with your eyes only. With the telescope your only looking at a small portion of the sky. depending on the and different eyepieces its bringing closer a bigger or smaller percent of the sky to one eye so it is actually closer. Remember to look up and enjoy the view from our Blue Marble with or with out a telescope.

Try and find some double stars and see if you can see if it splits the stars some I know you can split but some can't. Also look for some star clusters open or globular those make good targets for the scope.
