I've had the Celestron Zoom for about 2 months now, like it a lot. Perfect for offering a range of incrumental focal lengths to match seeing conditions and target. Nice video🙂

Thanks for doing this review. I will be investing in a zoom eyepiece when I upgrade from my 4.5 inch Newtonian EQ to a 12 inch Dob for ease of observing when I'm doing lunar work, maybe planetary too. Not sure if it will be the Celestron, Baader or Svbony yet but compiling data from reviews like this certainly helps.

I had the celestron for a few years now. It came with one of my scopes. It works very well. My only complaint is that the zoom seems “backwards” to me. Maybe its just me, but i expect “leftie loosie, righty thight”, so clockwise should give me a “tighter” view or more zoom. But its actually the other way around. Idk, maybe i’m special, but it catches me every time if i dont use it for a while.

Could you do a comparison of the Baader Mk IV and Tele Vue 3-6 mm zoom eye pieces? I read a lot about good reviews of the Tele Vue zoom, and it would be nice to see how the Baader zoom compare to that one. Thanks!

Great review! I finally purchased the hyperion zoom to upgrade from my Apatura zoom and complete my hyperion set. Wish the set with the 2.5x barlow was in stock at the time. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I'm sure with your reviews on it and owning the other Baader eyepieces in that line it'll be great. Also it comes with so many more options on ways to use it compared to most zooms i've seen.

I have a Baader Mk IV and love it. Also have a svbony 7-21 for comparison purposes. Question is: is there a better zoom than the Baader? I.e. quality, performance and value?

I didn't care about a zoom, but I bought the Celestron on sale for $79 open box so I popped for it, but no returns on open box and I have the same issue as you and would have sent it back. This zoom is stiff, but not grating like yours is. I use Orthos so generally fov doesn't bother me EXCEPT at low powers and all zooms have a small fov there!🤣 Now my Celestron zoom has a pretty sharp picture in my really good scope, but is dimmer in my Maksutov which I will lay at the 1500 focal length. Now with my Tele Vue 2x Barlow in my 150mm reflector it goes to town at 180x down to 32x if I wanted that. I use a 25 ED to find my targets and then put the zoom in at around 18mm. It is really clear and bright, that 96-97% reflective mirrors does that. edit, the bottom is chrome plated brass and be careful zooming as I unscrewed the top, lens and all, not being careful where I grabbed it, doggone tight twist.

Good helpful video u where right spending a bit more time with with my 200p dob has shown me that it's got its strengths its not as big of a difference as I thought but then again I didn't really no what they where to begin with 🤣 but 100% more light 🤷‍♂️ there definitely is difference especially with deep sky I now have a good idea of what scope I want its not an eq mount or an sct my next scope will be a 250p flex tube with goto as I like just poking around the sky quite abit finding something, then finding out what it is 🤣 and the eq mount is no good for that really and the same with the next star sct it's no good without power but the goto dob can be used as a normal dod but when I can't find what I'm looking for the goto will do it for me

It is hard to compare when one costs over 250 % more than the other. The obvious winner would be the costly one. Good video

Have both hardly any difference between them, also have Celestron M2 100ED spotting scope with zoom that's amazing just as good as the Baader. Overall the Baader zoom is not worth £237.

The Baader is 3 times the price ! It's like comparing a Corolla to a Lexus...

Generally you pay for what you get these days, i think the older stuff is made better and the quality is superior, bit like older cars from lzte 90s to early 2000s, they print more money and quality starts to slide but you get more fancy names and coatings to try sell you it, its all about cost these days with most people and Corporations.
