Michael, Thank you for this video. I ordered a Celestron VX 6" Refractor telescope a couple of days ago so I was pleased to learn how to assemble the mount while waiting the the scope's delivery which should be a couple of weeks. I have been taking part in amateur astronomy (AA) off and on since I was 12 years old. I still have my old Sears Discoverer 76MM Refractor that I purchased to view Comet Kohoutek in 1974. I used that telescope last night to view Jupiter and Saturn and introduce some friends to AA. Astronomy is a great hobby and that can provide enjoyment over a lifetime! Best regards to you.

Oh man, I keep my 8" Dob around, not sure we could ever part, it's still the best visual telescope around for the money. Great fun to have a look around the cosmos while the refractor is imaging stuff. Grab a used 6 or 8" Dob, they're great - just this morning I had a 15 minute look at Jupiter and Saturn rising in the east before the sun... I wouldn't have had any time to setup my AVX when my kids were waking up within the hour -- but the Dob rolls out to the driveway and is up and running in seconds. You can't go wrong!

Hi Michael, Very nice video once again with a very clear and well presented commentary. Do I name my telescope. Well, Yes, usually after a long, frustrating time trying to polar align and then 2 star align etc and the names I give it are totally unrepeatable :)

Thank you so much for this video. You made the assembly of my Celestron AVX so simple. Your instructions were easy to follow. Im down to the point of attaching my 8" Newtonian Reflector and afterwards the finishing items.

this video was great, as no one goes through the basics, just a "here is one I prepared earlier" moment and like magic one appears assembled !!, or they do a ruddy time-lapse, where it's so fast you barely see an Allen wrench at all. and nice you showed us how to orientate the "tripod head" to the legs, as most people unfamiliar might get it wrong.

Hi Michael! re: Celestron AVX & ES ED102 Assembly) the "dove-tail", (of your clam-shell cage) needs to be rotated 180 degrees, so the locking bolts apply pressure to the stainless steel bar (on the opposite side) ...not to the painted, aluminum casting. Then spin the ED102 scope around, 180º as well. :) RCK Clear Skies!

Lol I do name my telescopes! My first one is a cheap Beginner 70mm Meade refractor, Meredith. And my new 8” Newtonian on the AVX Mount is Mildred. Haha.

Hi sir, I will receive the mount soon in 10 days, and I am wondering if I can attach(connect) my dslr camera on the mount by the dovetail, will it work? If yes, can I use it as a skyguider? Such as I use the remote to align the mount and the camera to the position I want? Or shall I connect it to my laptop? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Is the new telescope a good refractor? I had a refractor telescope when I was a kid It was a Sears brand. It was ok but the alt azimuth was not really great. I'm looking for a new telescope but on the fence between getting a refractor or a reflector

I named all my telescopes. I'm sorry for the dobson. I also bought AVX but I kept my 8" inch dobsonian.

I think that's a good trade off. The dob is Great, but the size and weight and cool down time is a little much. Wives hate telescopes. It's in the DNA

one question, as you are in the U.S., do you know if these mounts can be used in the SOUTHERN hemisphere ( Australia) as all the shops over here sell the cheap & nasty brand "MEAD"or "Celestron" , but we are all 'drooling' over your explore scientific, Takahashi , Stellar view and other brands who incidentally are either European, Japanese , or from your country, but we question can we use them over our way??, as we CAN"T see Polaris, the star these mounts are designed to be rotated around ( as most videos seem to infer) as it is impossible, due to the earth's curvature!!
