For those of you who don't speak the magnificent , poetic French language... That last line "Dieu reunit ceux qui s'aiment"........is the most beautiful. In English, it means that even after death...... *love never dies* .....and *"God reunites those who love each other"*.

+Steven Patrick Stone It's "Dieu réunit ceux* qui s'aiment" .... "ceux"means "those" in english. "Ce" would translate roughly to "this" in english. I don't want to be a grammar nazi, but just trying to help! :) and you got the correct meaning of the phrase, kudos! :)

1.She sang this 100% live. Probably with not so much preparation. It was only a week or so after the Paris attack. 2. Her husband was dying from throat cancer, and passed away few months later. 3. She was singing in French, her native language. She must have sung every word out like it was from her heart. 4.Despite singing a French song in an AMERICAN music event , the whole audience was still incredibly moved, some were just seen crying..men and women. This shows how powerful the emotional aspect of the song and performance was. 5. Singing a song about losing someone, with the thoughts of her own loved one dying and terrible terrorist attacks around the world would have been very very difficult. 6. CELINE IS AN ICON. Beautiful performance that was not about perfection, but more about emotion!

And did everyone notice how the audience rose to their feet as she was about to sing, clapped, cheered, and remained on their feet, many in tears, for the entire duration of her performance? Who else had that kind of welcome and response from the audience that night? Huh? No one, that''s who.

@@stevenredigonda4205 so true! And the fact that she was singing in FRENCH. I bet most of the people there had no idea what the song was saying. Only a masterful artist can transfer emotion with only music. Celine nailed it.

As a french canadian, this is to me her best performance in her life. As you can imagine, the ties between France and Québec are very important to us which is one of the many reasons that explain the emotions in her voice! I also like how they put a picture of the flowers given in the name of ''Le Peuple Québécois''. Bravo!

Celine is always perfectly on pitch but this moment in time and this song both for her and France required a level of emotion that demanded her singing to be raw and imperfect. She's like walking on a tightrope the whole song, always on the edge, losing her balance sometimes, and it draws the audience in, it is a masterpiece, a career defining performance.

Is there a slight bit of rasp? A touch of the cold... sure. But damn this was amazing. Edith Piaf would be absolutely thrilled to see celine master this amazing beautiful song in her own way. She did a fantastic job mixing Edith vibrato and Celine’s style. Beautiful job.

1. She sang it LIVE. 2. She's French Canadian, so just imagine how this is affecting her emotionally. 3. Her husband is dying from cancer which makes this all the more difficult to get through. 4. Celine does not go off key unless there is a sound problem. Her inner ear monitors were giving her problems for sure. 5. She looks amazing at her age. 6. Even though there are pitchy moments no one can deny the raw power and emotion of her voice.

+Michael Neill 1. Most of the performances were live that night -- except for a couple with big dance numbers. 2. What does being French Canadian have anything to do with 'this affecting her emotionally'? She's Canadian, not Parisian. 3. She returned to performing in Vegas in August. She's a professional and as such should be able to cope with that considering she performs regularly. 4. Most likely true. Plus her voice cracked at least twice which makes me wonder if she was performing sick which could also affect hearing, pitch, ect. 5. No comment. In the end, there is no reason for people to be defending her. She's a pro that had an off nite and a rare bad performance.

To everyone claiming her performance was flat and off pitch. Did you know that this was 2 months before she lost her husband. The song was here sung for Paris, but its about the love of your life dying. She was obviously very emotional, plus she took time off to take care of her husband, therefore hadn't sing in a while. But really, I'd take this version over any other, the emotions make it so beautiful, I tear up every time.

Lara Lorenzon this was in November 2015. Her husband didn’t just never wake up one day, he suffered for over a year. That year, Celine cancelled all her shows to take care of her husband and she was just starting performing again. She was tired, it’s not easy to take care of your dying husband, mentally and physically.

My best translation in English of this beautiful love song: The blue sky above may fall And the earth may collapse Nothing matters if you love me And I could care less about the whole world As long as my mornings are flooded with love As long as my body trembles in your hands I don't care about my problems My love - because you love me I would go to the end of the world I would dye my hair blond If you asked me I would detach the moon I would find fortune If you asked me I would renounce my country I would renounce my friends If you asked me People can laugh at me I would do anything If you asked If one day life takes you away from me If you die and are away from me It won't matter if you love me For I will die too We will have eternity In the immense blue sky For in heaven there are no more problems My love , believe in our love *God reunites those who love each other*

Celine's best live performance ever , anyone who understands her love and passion for her French heritage and her undying love for her husband would be able to 'feel' her soul in this song. Love speaks an universal language , when she sang her voice passed through ears , passed minds , straight to the hearts of those seeing and hearing her , exactly why people who did not understand a word were moved to tears.

I personally thought it was perfection, raw and honest perfection. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. She imitates Edith Piaf here. It reminds me of when she sang "God Bless America" after 9/11. I had to sit through another horrible music award show to wait for her. After she was done I shut it off. She is a gem. She always was and she always will be. It is easy to criticize when you are not in someone else's shoes. She is fulfilling her dying husband's wish of continuing on with her career when I am sure she would much rather be at home with him 24/7. She has an inner confidence that none of you can take away from her no matter how hard you try. The strength of this woman is undeniable. She was perfect in this rendition. Please everyone submit your renditions of this song immediately because I would love to hear your "beautiful" voices.

My father was from Quebec. But he always cheated on my mother. Some of my earliest memories were of her and me dancing together to Édith Piaf in our living room. She was heartbroken because she didn’t know where he was or with whom, but she always made sure I saw her smiling. And we danced. 1972 or so. She is long gone now, but this was her favorite.

It's so easy to criticize on the internet. Why don't you all try going onto that AMA stage and give a "flawless" performance on such a sensitive subject. No, it was not vocally "perfect", could have been a number of reasons but if it had been vocally "perfect", she would have been accused of showing no emotion and/or lip-synching....so either way, Celine loses. People love to hate on this woman and I don't know why. It was a very touching, emotional and HUMAN performance. Even with her vocal "flaws" Celine Dion has more talent in one finger than half the folk that were on that stage and she still has one hell of a voice for 47 years old. She does great in Vegas still, but there was a lot of pressure on her I'm sure for this song. I don't think anyone could have done a better tribute to Paris, maybe with the exception of Edith Piaf herself. I am proud to say I am a Celine Dion fan and I loved this performance. Thank you Celine!

I look at some of the comments below and I despair. Celine (French Canadian) was pouring her heart of in a tribute to all those who died and were injured in Paris and to their families, and a small group of those commenting here can say nothing but criticise her vocal technique with not one word of empathy or sympathy for those victims. Shame on you who are so small minded and wrapped up in a self absorbed need to detract from the occasion and make it about you own "expert" musical knowledge. Shame on you.

Her off key notes was very little. she was in control, probably fighting back the emotion of the lyrics this is a very tragic song and she is going through the same thing with her husband dieing of terminal cancer, so cut her some slack folks this is a great song for a great cause.

It basically states that while Celine's performance was not the most solid vocally, it didn't take away from the emotion of the moment.
