SMARTPHONE ETIQUETTE FOR USE AT WORK / RAISE THE BAR ON WORKPLACE CELL PHONE MANNERS
Cell phones and manners are compatible, you just need to be up-to-speed on cell phone etiquette rules. In this video, I'm sharing 8 smart etiquette tips for cell phone use at work.
I’m breaking down some do’s and don’ts of cell phone etiquette at work, so that nobody ever says your name and the word ‘rude’ in the same sentence. Your reputation will be outstanding, your communication will be efficient, and you’ll have some key smartphone techniques up your sleeve on how to use your cell phone with manners.
When it comes to personal cell phone use at work, not everyone in the workplace has their etiquette mastered. That’s why it’s best you form these habits now and thrive in your career, instead of following suit with coworkers who might not know good etiquette themselves.
In this office cell phone etiquette video, we’ll go over:
-How to keep a HEALTHY relationship between social media and work
-The WORST times to check your phone at work
-What to do if you seriously CAN’T ignore a call (even if you’re in a meeting!)
-The BIGGEST mistake you can make when taking calls in public
-The GOLDEN RULES for texting (when you should and shouldn’t text)
-The top etiquette FAILS that you should NEVER do at work
-An EASY way to ensure you and your coworkers don’t get distracted by your phone

lol, love the "distraction" from the ding!! In the workplace, my phone is not used unless I need to and I only make/take calls when I won't be distracted from a specific task or meeting. I also keep it on vibration. As for social media, I barely use it, so it's not really a problem for me :)

Haha, so glad you liked that! Glad you're not easily distracted by social media, and it sounds like you've got your good phone etiquette down. You've set yourself up for success! Great job!

Thank you so much for these great smartphone etiquette tips! Sometimes it's really hard to navigate cell phone etiquette in the workplace. I never know if I should put it away entirely or not, so it's good to have someone outline proper workplace cell phone manners!

I learned in college to make sure my posts were okay for future employers. It really helped keep all of the not-so-good posts and pictures off my page from an early start! I love having my phone near me in case my son needs me, but I try so hard to not use it while at work.

That's great, Meredith! Nothing wrong with keeping it close by so you can be on call, as long as you're not allowing your cell phone to hinder your career. Cheers!

Watched a window cleaner from my room on the 31st floor in the Rio with his face buried in his smartphone. I was reading a Clive Cussler novel until I saw him. I found the window cleaner a few minutes later pushed back by a strong gust of wind while still gripping on to his cell. I told him to grab on to his rope and not the dang phone. Obviously he couldn't hear me because of the glass between us. I think his name was James? Sadly I watched him plunge thousands of feet down to the bottom. That moment still haunts me.

Damn, watching her, I feel like I am the ONLY one in my town, maybe even my country who doesn't stare at my phone constantly . I don't even have internet access on my phone or social media, which is just fine with me. If I look at my cell phone when I'm not at home, I try to only look at it when I'm in the women's room or in my car . I think it's very rude to take it out and look at it or start texting while talking to someone.

@@AdrianaGirdler Sorry to come across as rude. I just get annoyed when I see people who seem to jokingly talk about their addiction to cell/Smart phones like it's a good thing. Smart p hones can be very dangerous for many reasons and are also very hard to put down and highly addictive. They're also very bad for young people's brains because it can cause them to be non-empathetic towards people as they get older. I forget where I read that, but I can believe it because I've seen how selfish young people can get today, and that the only thing they seem to care about is getting on social media on their phones. I wish more parents were aware of how Smart phones negatively affect their kids! I think a big problem is that many parents are so addicted to their devices, they don't see how it's hurting their kids. I think more people need to learn to be more comfortable being alone with themselves so they won't feel this constant urge to look at their phones as a distraction. Anyway, have a good day.

I looked up something else & found this. It could be an outdated source… but the lady standing behind the workers back for 10 minutes is invading their privacy. No wonder why so many people are burnt out and won’t take a job for less pay than they deserve. Is this about how we appear or the productivity and amount of work we can actually get done? The game has changed and people are able to work from home. No more of that standing over their shoulder watching everything they do. Sorry but that’s just how it’s going to be now!

I disagree.....The message that came across loud and clear for me was about etiquette.....thoughtfulness and respect for those around you. I have colleagues that can not even have a 3 minute conversation with someone without pulling out their phone and gazing at it ( this person is truely addicted and it's a problem). I always look at things from a managers point of view. If you were the owner of a company, would you want to be paying an employee to be scrolling on social media? Also, burnout does not occur because you can't be on your phone at work...
