For the people commenting how this is Scottish, you realize Scottish is included in the term Celtic. Celtic is not just Irish.
@kaylamcook6965 жыл бұрын
This is very true. "Celtic" refers to the people of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man. Most people just think it means Irish though.
@KeithMountifield5 жыл бұрын
However the description says 'Irish classic', which is inaccurate. None-the-less a beautiful song. Though this rendition, great as it is, for me, lacks the raw emotion of Christy Moore performing it.
@stacyk1234 жыл бұрын
In fact I believe it originated neither in Ireland or Scotland. I think it comes from the Appalachian region of the United States. I could be wrong though.

It bugs me that after a certain amount of vocal training most vocalists start to all sound the same. Really like Lisa Lambe's voice because after all the training, she still sounds Irish when she sings. Really beautiful.

the voices of people, especially women, from the Celtic lands and from Scandinavia are absolutely hypnotic. what i would give to have such a pure voice....and i'm already a decent singer.

What an incredible version of a fantastic song. It's a shame they missed the verse "I go down to the Clyde and I mourn and weep..." I love that part.

I like how the musical production starts so innocent and hypnotic, but builds in passion. It's like the musical arrangers captured the heart of the writer long ago. And Lisa delivers the same with her performance.

Thanks for uploading this!! I saw this concert on PBS in November & was mesmerized when she did this song! I watched the concert 2 more times that month just to hear this song again! Lovely song, lovely arrangement, lovely woman, and lovely rendition. I so appreciate that they remained true to the traditional lyrics and didn't change the pronouns! They did that in their first concert with, "She Moved Through the Fair", another beautiful arrangement by one of Celtic Woman's former members.

It's interesting how some Celtic Woman members change the pronouns of love songs and others don't. Hayley Westenra used male pronouns in "Scarborough Fair," Lisa Kelly sang "fellas" instead of "ladies" in "Caledonia," and "Beyond the Sea" was performed with male pronouns instead of female pronouns. Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Susan Fadden have done renditions of "She Moved Through the Fair" (and, coincidentally, so have Chloë Agnew and Lisa Lambe as a duet) without pronoun changes. And then there's Lisa Lambe here with the original female pronouns in "Black is the Color."
@mikeober97734 жыл бұрын
Speaking of Scarborough Fair, look at the lyrics closely. It appears it was written as a male/female duet.
@biot71753 жыл бұрын
Hayley Westenra also sang a male addressed version of this song at a live performance. It's somewhere here on youtube.

Thank you for the info .. interesting. ! The main thing I was wondering about in the version that I heard in THIS clip, was the difference between .. 'the sweetest face, and the gentliest touch' (Celtic Women) vs. .. 'the sweetest smile, and the gentiliest hands'. (The version I first heard) . I did some brief google-ing and found that this old-tyme song has was written in various ways. But I DO prefer the latter. :-) Again, thanks for your response.
