I wish I could tell you how hugely important this song has been to me. Both my parents died and my husband left me all in a time period of 6 months. I was battling crippling anxiety and fighting it and fighting God. Finally, I just told him, Lord if you want me to have anxiety, I'll have it. Just don't leave me. I felt his peace, and my life began to turn around.

Yo dude. Just wanted to say: I know exactly what you're going through. It's tough. But you will get through it, and I'm not gonna say some bullshit like the lord will get you through it or your mate sor any of that crap. YOU will get through it. The power you have as an individual is immeasurable. Keep on keeping on brother.

I hear this song and it reminds me of when we first saw Celtic Woman on PBS here in the S,F, Bay Area. I was only a small child when I heard this song for the first time. It really left a great impression on me. I got stationed with the Army in Germany and there I met my first wife. I played this song for her and she fell in love with it. She had not ever heard of it before since was German and she asked me where I had heard it for the first time. I told her that we sung this song often in church. To make a long story short, she asked me to play this song at her funeral if she should pass before me. In 2006 I did as she requested. She died at the age of 42 due to cancer.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t know if you know this or not but, I want to tell you something really important. There is a God and He really loves you. So so much. I’m not saying this just to be nice or something. I’m saying it because I KNOW that it’s true. I’m getting emotional right now just thinking about God’s love for you. And God really wants you in heaven with Him one day. But there’s a problem for every single person. We have all sinned. Sin is breaking God’s law. And you and I both have done this, and so has everyone else. God is love, but God is also righteous. He is a perfect judge, so there must be punishment(hell) for our sins. Hell is terrifying. In hell there is NO joy, no peace, no rest, no love, and no hope. I’m not saying this to scare you, but I must tell you the truth. Anyone who has sinned deserves hell(myself definitely included). You will go to either heaven or hell. And the standard for heaven is perfection. So we sound pretty screwed. Sounds like pretty bad news, right? Well it is, BUT there is some REALLY good news. God doesn’t want ANY of us to end up in hell. In fact, God would rather DIE, than live without you. So that’s what He did. God in the flesh, Jesus. Christ, the Son of God, came down to earth and lived a sinless life. And then He died on the cross in our place. Romans 6:23 KJV, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” While Jesus hung on the cross, He said, “IT IS FINISHED.” As in the debt has been paid. In full. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins! HE DID IT. FOR US. And three days later HE ROSE AGAIN, proving that God has accepted His sacrifice. Salvation is really a gift from God. There is nothing we could EVER do that could earn us salvation. We already broke God’s law! And God cannot be bribed. Also our righteous deeds are as FILTHY RAGS before God. That’s why we NEED Jesus. No matter what you’ve done, you can be forgiven. God WANTS to forgive you. But if you want to be forgiven/saved you must receive His gift by placing your faith (belief and trust) in Jesus Christ and in His finished work on the cross. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” THE NANOSECOND you place you faith in Jesus Christ you are clothed in the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV Jesus took our punishment and He gives us HIS righteousness(when we place our faith in Him.) Now whoever trusts in Him can go to heaven because in God’s eyes we are perfect in Christ. And He remembers our sins no more. I hope you receive God’s gift to you. You are NOT too far gone. God WANTS you. He hasn’t left you, and He will NEVER give up on you. Once you are saved you are always saved. Ephesians 1:13 KJV, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” In Christ there is forgiveness for all sins, past, present, and future. He loves you.

Indeed they are. Yet I will register a small disappointment here: When some people (as they do) make comments along the lines of, I'm not a Christian, yet I adore this song, I wish the replies would be something like: though of not our faith, you recognize the best our faith has to offer. We appreciate that. Instead, the typical reply I see is more like, our faith is the only true one and now you have given me an opening to try and recruit you. This missed opportunity for mutual respect and admiration saddens me.

As with so many Celtic Woman songs, old hymns and ballads become transcendent. You find tears filling your eyes (such as mine -- who are not even the slightest religious). The musical arrangements and vocals are so beautiful that your heart is transported to some other place -- a place without disagreement, discontent or argument. The musical arrangements really stir the soul -- even if you don't think you have one.

It was about 7 1/2 years ago the last time I got to listen to Amazing Grace with my mom. She knew she wasn't going to make it, and she told me and my sister she wanted it played at her funeral. I had never even touched a set of bagpipes..but I promised her I would learn to play it on pipes as my sister promised to sing it. I spent every waking minute learning, and when it came time...I couldn't help but cry like a baby the whole time. I had to face away from my sister and everyone else just to make it through, because I knew I'd lose it if I had to watch all the people she loved cry. Sometimes..when I'm lonely and missing her, I come and I watch this video..and I let myself lose it. I get about halfway through before I remember how much my mom loved how I let music touch my soul and bare my real emotions. See..I was a hard kid, I had to be so that my mom and my sister could be vulnerable. I took the brunt of anything that came at our family, and I did it to protect them from having to be hard like me. I didn't find out until after she was gone..but mom told my sister "Cyrus is the strongest out of us, but he's also the softest..play my song, and let him be soft sometimes." Now..she calls me every year for moms birthday, and on the anniversary of her death..and she plays me moms song and she let's me be the vulnerable one. She reminds me that moms favorite thing in the world was watching me sing, or play handbells, or give my compassion to another..because that's when she got to watch me let down all my walls to be the soft one. Maybe this doesn't mean anything to anyone..but maybe there's someone out there, someone whose being the hard one to protect everyone else so they can be vulnerable...I've got you, my mom would want me to give you this 5 minutes.. go ahead and cry, I'll tough it out and watch your back so you can be the vulnerable one. For whoever is reading this, for whatever reason you read this..I love you. If no one else has told you today, or this week, or this year, or for a decade...I love you.

I finished riding your comment when the song ended, and God I cried. I'm sorry for your lost, sometimes it's ok to lose it; I hope you always have someone by your side when you need it, you must be so strong and brave. I'm the hard one too, now I have a lot of walls around me, but I feel alive when something touches my soul like your comment and this song
I want it played @ my wake/funeral because 🎉❤it’s lyrics humbled me

This song was written by John Newton, and Anglican christian who once made his living in trading slaves. He wrote the song upon his conversion to abolitionism. Listen carefully to the words, and may this song move you to become a christian who actually does God's work on here earth. Soooo many self-proclaimed christians do not, even though they take every opportunity to parade their "faith" to disparage others unfairly. We are all God's children, we each have our own path, and we all deserve a little mercy.

So I am encouraging you to find God again; He doesn’t promise us an easy life here, but if we remain faithful to Him, we will share Eternal Life with Jesus in the world to come. I would also recommend reading the book Job. It describes how God greatly tests Job, who praised Him despite losing all of his children . I am fairly certain God gave him additional children after this, which cannot replace those he lost, but are a definite sign of hope. God Bless you in this tough time, I believe He will provide for you, as was done for Job. We must run with patience the race!

Yes, I did. I heard that my ex-girlfriend may have recently passed away, very suddenly. I loved her, but I never told her that. We broke up before I had the chance. If what I heard is true that she passed, I am shocked and saddened by this news. She recently had her daughter, and may have been suffering from mental health problems. If true, my heart breaks for her daughter, who is only a toddler. I've been with my current girlfriend for 10 years. I heard through a mutual friend that my ex may have passed. I asked my mutual friend, and she said she wasn't sure that was true. I think my mutual friend was devastated to tell me. Even though I hadn't seen her in 13 years since our amicable breakup, I will always care about her. Grace, if you're listening, I want you to know how much I treasured our time together. Thank you. I will always care about you. I love you. Rest well. Clear tracks and High Green on the big railroad in the sky. Two Bells.

This is one of the most angelic versions I've ever heard. I've lost about 1/3 of family by middle age. This song was their individual favorites. I miss my sister just now, especially when it's the holidays. I guess I just needed to feel close to her. Life is so much different now without her. We've played it at her funeral, almost all of them, in church. I was able to hold it together until they played the hymns, especially with this and Ave Maria. There's a few more. Last time, I cried so hard that I was being held up because my emotional state was destroyed and then church music has always brought me tears for some reason. I may not be a Christian person for the most part anymore, but I still want these played for me when I go.

Amazing grace, How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I am found, Was blind, but now I see. 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come, 'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease I shall possess within the veil, A life of joy and peace. When we've been there ten thousand years Bright shining as the sun, We've no less days to sing God's praise Than when we've first begun.

I am an epistemelogical agnostic, a secular humanist, but above all: I am human--and as such I love this piece for its musical beauty and purity: this takes me, I believe, to such a state of mind that, for a moment, I believe I can transcend my own humanity--alas, I am human all too human! Viva la Musica!
@Crosshill10 жыл бұрын
Based on how you stated you were an atheist, I'm gonna guess that this song is religious in nature. While I don't agree with the beliefs of religion, there is no way to get around the fact that religions have inspired quite some beautiful things. Especially certain choir music really understands how to make that divine feeling, as if music itself is a deity
@MrShocktrupr10 жыл бұрын
Entraya Crosshill Well, most religions idealize kindness, love, bravery and tolerance. It's at the core of most of their beliefs and it makes religion a great example of the human spirit. This means that plenty of religious songs will be filled with the same imagery. The problem comes when people actually come into the picture and warp religion to justify ignorance and hatred. That's the part of religion that I take issue with.
@Crosshill10 жыл бұрын
MrShocktrupr If only everyone ever decided to use it for such great ideals, and even so, if only they could worship such ideals without need of religion. It's too easy to mix religion and politics, and it's generally too good a vessel for bullshit, which we can see easily in history and even today
