This is the most famous Ave Maria, composed by Franz Schubert. It is hard to believe that a piece so beautiful was composed by a young man who led such a miserable life, where he was often penniless and poor, dying eventually of syphilis. Fortunately his genius is eternal, and we have his music to remember him by. How much of Schubert's music was even performed in his lifetime? I had also thought that Schubert's last dying wish was to be buried near Beethoven.

Schubert did not die of syphilis in an insane asylum. You are thinking of Schumann, who was committed. Schubert's syphilis never reached end stage - but it destroyed his immune system, much like AIDs. In November of 1828 he contracted a fever, which, with no immune system to fight it off, ravaged him and took his life quite quickly. He died in a small, dark room at his half-brother's apartment. The poor thing was only 31 years old. This being said, he did commit himself to the Vienna General Hospital somewhere from 1-3 times, despite having two private doctors (who treated him for free out of a respect for his music and general good will.) He suffered an immense amount of pain and torture that would be unthinkable to any modern day 25 year old. Unlike most men of his time, he was truly a wonderful person who was beloved by everyone he met, and at only 5'1, bespectacled, and chubby, he's hard not to love. It is a shame he became so enamored with the rogue Schober. Schubert was quite proud of Ave Maria and even wrote a letter to his father, who he had a strained relationship with, about how much his friends loved it. It was published in both the original English and German, but the melody was later adopted by the Catholic church and the "Ave Maria" latin text was set to it. I am so glad that Schubert did not suffer for naught, and that we still dearly love him and his music today 💚🍄

@@emilymettner5316 Thankyou so much for your insightful points! I saw a movie about Schubert which showed him shaved, and being wheeled into an insane asylum. So much for historical accuracy. But, look, Amadeus was an interesting movie, but grossly historically inaccurate about both Mozart and Salieri. You obviously know more about Schubert than I do, and I thank you for your comment!

Ernest Miller I was Roman Catholic altar boy who learned all the Latin prayers and music before the Latin mass went away. This is one of the most moving pieces of music ever and still brings me to tears 55 years later.

Thank you Ireland for giving us Chloe and Celtic Woman. This is truly the most beautiful song ever written and Chloe's version is so far ahead of any other version. It may just be the greatest live performance of any female singer, period! I listen to this daily and it brings tears to my eyes every time.

My mother died Aug 1999 and I adored her. We had Catholic Mass for her and, when the casket was about to leave the altar, a young girl, maybe 13 or 14, sang AVE MARIA with such an angelic voice, beautiful voice. I am 78 yo and still remember that moment, there was not a dry eye in the church. I know she is looking for me in heaven.

@Some One No one is dead in Christ who gives eternal life. We may die in the physical, but our souls live on in heaven. Mary, the Mother of God, works with her Son, Jesus Christ, not in place of Him. We are called to be "God's co-workers" [1 Corinthians 3:9]. Why are you afraid to love Mary? You could never love her more than Jesus did.

@Some One "Mary is no more special than you or I are to God." You don't consider being chosen by God to bear Christ special? To carry the Word made flesh? How is that NOT special? "She was special only because God chose her to birth Jesus," How can you trivialize that moment? You make it seem as though God randomly selected a young woman at the roll of a die. "Worshipping Mary, praying to her, or holding her up high is treating her as an idol & that is a sin. Catholics do not worship Mary, we venerate her for her important role. This is a lie against Catholics. "The Bible never says to pray to Mary." This is a misrepresentation of prayer. " The Bible says the dead are dead and "dead have no memories."" So you do not believe in an afterlife and life everlasting? "Mary is not the mother of God" She gave birth the the Word made Flesh...therefore, Mother of God. The title does not mean she is the creator of God, just that she mothered him. "Stop preaching false doctrine." Stop misrepresenting Catholic beliefs and diminishing Mary.

Not since the late La Divina Maria Callas has someone sung this so pure and delightful. No weird runs or extreme vibrato, just simple unadulterated singing. Chloe balanced the music perfectly never trying to over power it or letting it over power her. It is also nice to witness the change in her voice when first began singing this song. It was definitely more juvenile before, this rendition had power as well as passion. Bravo Ms. Chloe!

Chloe Agnew's rendition of the Franz Schubert masterpiece, the Ave Maria (or the Hail Mary), is indeed super mesmerizing, delightful, and soul-piercing. Chloe's voice here sounds delicate and super soft, that is why it is so pleasant to our ears. But, mind you, Chloe has the ability to smoothly shift her voice to one that is loud and powerful, if the piece that she is singing, demands it from her. She has always been one of my favorite sopranos and singers of the Celtic Woman. Bravo, Chloe. And thank you David and Chloe, and the other singers and orchestra members for this superb number.

This was my late grandmother’s favorite hymn because her name was also Mary. I’m not particularly religious but whenever I hear this song, it’s like I can almost feel my grandma’s love envelope me like a warm hug, and I remember her gentle touch. Because of this, I can’t hear this song without bawling my eyes out. This rendition is particularly beautiful and tear inducing.

One of the most beautiful cover of Ave Maria.On Friday i attended the regular mass at my church and while i am doing my extra prayers i cant help but attend a funeral mass to pay respect to the dead and to pray for the soul too.I pray that the soul be united with God in Heaven.Then somebody sang this beautiful music.When i die i want this beautiful piece to be played in my funeral.The singer here used to be a member of Celtic Woman and she was one of my favorites of the group.I read somewhere that she ventured into a solo act.i wonder what happened to her career.Yesterday i prayed to God that these highly gifted underrated artists be given the chance to be recognized for their talents and be given the chance to shine and be successful. I missed the golden era of music where all genres are represented .i missed the old r&b,jazz,funk,folk and classical music.In my grandmother time we only have records and we appreciate the singers talents mainly by their beautiful voices like Nat King Cole the favorite of my grandma.Nowaday you have to have dancing skills do extra stuffs like showing skin and ass in order to be famous and when you really listen to their voices they are not good.My honest opinion.I am tired of listening to my old records.Each of us is unique and each of us has different taste in music.I am old and i am not dead yet i still have passion for my kind of music.I missed those record stores selling all types of music.Nowaday we have to buy everything on Amazon ,etc.

Her name is Chloë Alexandra Adele Emily Agnew, usually shortened to Chloë Agnew. According to her Wikipedia, she has released two albums in 2018, and 2019. So I reckon she's doing just fine. 🙂

Ordinarily I would agree. But, to me, Silent Night, Holy Night is the most beautiful. In 1969 I was aboard an aircraft carrier when Bob Hope came aboard on Christmas Eve. There is nothing so beautiful as to hear the voices of thousands of Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and Airmen raised singing Silent Night. I still cannot sing it without choking up.

My mom introduced this to me when I was a kid. When I became a Catholic I really appreciated it more. My mom was asked by the church my dad to play this during there service and they enjoyed it. Everytime I say the rosary I always play this song and pray for my parents.

The most beautiful form of prayer! I am Catholic but I also greatly respect and appreciate the lovely comment from the Muslim person. Thank you. I have Dear friends who are Muslim. And they are some of the most kind, compassionate warm, prayerful and gentle people I have ever met. I firmly believe that God wants us all to live purely by love alone. It is what Jesus came to teach us. He came to teach us to serve one another and to love one another. Purely and simply. God is blessedly uncomplicated. Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving. Schubert's Mass in G is one of the most beautiful masses ever written. I heard it as a child in church, then had to sing it for a college choir, and it wasn't easy, but somewhat comforting after a few family members deaths. Others are dead and this always gets played. Celine's is the best; this is a close second. When I feel like I'm depressed, missing them, and need to feel better, I play the hymns. I grew up in a conservative Catholic family and I cry at the music they played in the family that meant something to them, especially with an organ in church. Right now, I'm missing my sister, who died of unrelated covid during the beginning of the pandemic. No funeral. It was horrible and the disassociation was traumatic.

I am catholic. Not more than others but not less either. I discovered this video a few days ago, and since then, I have watched it more than 20 times for sure and most of the times my tears show up in my eyes. Not only because the beauty of the video itself, but because it makes me feel close to the Holy Mother Mary as I felt with my mom when I was a kid.

I was lucky to see Chloe perform solo in Dublin nearly three years ago and stumbled in onwhat turned out to be a very intimate and special show, mainly family, friends and diehard fans from across the world, at which she shared a stage for the first time in ten years with her father David, as you all prob know, the oboe player in the RTE Concert Orchestra. He performed on his own too and if you ever wonder where Chloe got the ability to hold those incredible long notes at the end of songs, look no further than her Dad, his breath control was amazing. And of course she finished the concert with this. Magic!

I saw Chloe perform at the Paramount Theatre in Ashland, KY in March 18, 2017 with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. She sang this one during the show {no chorus of course) and it sounded just as sweet and pure.

I've listened to over 50 renditions of this gem and thought I had heard the best. Once again there's always room for the best-ever. Bravo, this exclusively, could compel an atheist to think there just might be a god after all.
