@@selinxsener because he knew lagartha and that if she wanted to leave him then that's what she was going to do and begging her to not go would only make her lose respect for him, besides he asked her to stay with him and allow him to have more children with aslaug on the side but lagartha thought that would be to embarrassing and shameful for her to have a husband who openly has another woman and that people would know she could no longer have children. You can tell by how he speaks to her, how he looks at her and how he remembers her that he truly did love lagartha but destiny drove them apart. You should watch the rest of the show, it's weird to judge a character from just one season.

Ragnar openly stated what they both knew, it wasnt love that brought them together. Ragnar wanted more sons, he had been told he would have more sons, Lagertha clearly wasnt the one who could give him that, and Aslaugh didnt love Ragnar, but she knew that he was an Earl/Jarl now, a position of power and he had become famous enough that everyone knew he was the first one to sail to new undiscovered lands, he had power and position, all she had was being the daughter of legendary mom and father, but she had accomplished nothing herself. And so she was willing to give him what he wanted if he gave her what she wanted and they both delivered.

Sutherland did amazing job as Aslaug.When people get to hate a character so bad you know you did a hell of a job.
@thomasjoseph5876
@thomasjoseph5876 28 күн бұрын
Very true. What's even better is when you can get people to admire you even though you are a "bad person" then you know the acting is supreme. A perfect example is some professional wrestlers. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rowdy Roddy Piper are the two biggest ones. They were billed as "Heels" or "Bad Guys" but their acting was so great that they became "Anti-Heroes" and were loved by the audience to the point that the WWE had to turn them into "Good Guys" LOL. Now that is some excellent acting. Let's not forget "The Rock", Dwayne Johnson. He started off as a "bad guy" but he played his character so charismatic that people couldn't help but love him. He would literally degrade them and the city/state they lived in and STILL, they loved him LOL. Another example is Tom Hiddlestead's character of Loki in the Avenger/Thor movies. The dude tried to kill his father and his brother, Thor, and the audience STILL loved him LOL.

She was a terrible queen. Lagertha showed just how easily an enemy could waltz in and kill her or any one of her citizens when she finally evened the score for seducing Ragnar all those years ago. All that time Ragnar spent abroad and Auslaug spent none of it actually improving Kattegat and its defenses. As an English queen consort that might be fine, but for a Viking that was pitiful - with Lagertha in charge the town would have become a stone walled fortess by that time.

Until fairly recently in human history marriage had very little to do with love. Marrying for love is quite a modern idea. Back in those times it was essential for a man to have sons for the continuation of the family, for labor distribution and for new warriors. It wasn't PC but that's just the way it was. If society falls it will be that way again.

@@sylviamartinez9810 Ragnar is the one who did the damage. Ragnar is the one who betrayed Lagertha. How can a woman who owes you no loyalty, and doesn't even know you, betray you? It's ridiculous how we blame women for men cheating on their wives. We never blame men for sleeping with a married woman, unless the man knows and is close to the married womans husband. We don't even blame the new man when the married woman leaves her husband for the new man. It's completely stupid to expect more from one gender than the other.

It’s also truly sad because before all this, she wanted his love. She came to him as an untamable, witty young princess and ended as broken-hearted, neglected and cold woman who feels unloved and forgotten. A product of years after her circumstances. None of them were perfect but damn, Auslaug did her very best to the bitter end, no matter what betrayals, dashed hopes, and danger came her way.
