EPISODE 16
The dual sport adventure continues in this second part of the Mongolia ride. After a few rough days in the soft sand I got the hang of it and was able to speed through all previously deemed tough sections. This is when it got really fun and I did some of my best dualsport riding ever. Something clicked and I became hooked to a completely new feeling. It was something special to find out what that Honda Transalp was capable off.
Enjoy this short motorcycle travel documentary in Mongolia put together with the video footage that I recorded back in 2014.

My name is Pedro Mota and back in 2014 I left the Netherlands on a beautiful Honda Transalp dual sport motorbike on a trip to the east end of Russia in Vladivostok. On the way there we would take a big detour through the Middle East, Central Asia and Mongolia. Little did I know back then that this would evolve into a years long motorbike travel further taking me through Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the American continent.

So much respect for you from your fellow solo adventure riding buddy from Australia. Such an intense ride.. Can't believe the hardships you faced in this one.. Including that intense crash. I dont know if youre a lucky man or unlucky.. Guess you could take a positive spin on it and say you're lucky that you didn't get injured. But i know the struggles and pain of riding through tough terrain in rainy weather. Makes you feel stressed and nervous.

Appreciate the comment mate. Like you say: unlucky for the flat and concrete block, luck for there being no opposite traffic on the busy road as the bike veered across it and only brushing my arm as it tumbled past me while I was on the ground. Yeah mud can be chaos eh. Btw wish I'd started making vids in Oz because I'm finding out there are quite a few riders there making good stuff on yt like you. Would have been nice to meet some of ya.

So many good videos Pedro- I imagine though out of them all, these may be your favorite to look back upon. So much unknown, I envy that freedom you are feeling in these videos and its documented so well. Safe travels and hope they continue to give you the same euphoria these have.

Cheers mate. A coming of age experience. Over the years I had to stop chasing that feeling because you can only truly experience it once the way it all came together during that first year. Mongolia and Tajikistan was the magic sauce.

@@iPedroMota I would agree to an extent but I would argue any time you set out on a motorcycle journey without any concrete plans, especially solo (maybe thats just me) youre almost required have to have that elated feeling of freedom. You are simultaneously fully in control while fully subject to what happens on the trail. It is difficult to describe, I feel it- and i can tell in these videos you feel it too. God bless- hope India is treating you well.

Hi Pedro, hope you fully enjoy your ridings, I really enjoy following them. One small request though; it would be lovely of you if you could arrange your videos either by country name and number or in a playlist like the videos from New Zealand. This way following them get much easier! Thanks again for wonderful adventures and keep having fun!

Great video!!! I think you're speeding a little bit too much. Bear in mind that if you ever get seriously injured (wish that never ever happens) you'll be on your own. Drive safer and enjoy the view!!! Cheers from Argentina!!!

When I was traveling around South America, the washboard roads kept breaking my rack. The solution was to put some spanbanden from the rack to the back of the motorcycle.

When one is riding a long trek like the one that you are doing - and you are cranking right along at the speeds you are doing - you have to be 100% focused all of the time - but often you get really tired - and down goes the bike. What was the black smoke fire?

No hard side panniers, progressive spring rear shock, bring a good camera, go faster through that which is closer to home, get a one year Russian visa if possible (plan better if not), when you feel like you're in a hurry you're actually not in most cases. I'm in Chile man.

Holy mother!! what an adventure! Respect man. What kind of bike modification do you recommend to travel through Mongolia? Tips? groetjes uit Amsterdam!
@iPedroMota
@iPedroMota 6 жыл бұрын
Dank! Soft side luggage, if you go hard then good racks and a sturdy mounting system for the panniers (sturdy mount for topcase too!). Depending on the reputation of your bike's rear suspension upgrade the spring to a progressive spring. Bash plate if there isn't one already. Tough tubes. Tips: faster is safer most of the time, compressing the forks is what gets you into trouble in the sand, road direction and condition can change fast so expect the unexpected, Mongolians on tarmac are pretty nuts. Bring an air inflation and tire pressure measuring device. Check nuts and bolts every day/couple of days, bring loctite.

Used plastic 1.5l bottles in Central Asia and Mongolia, up to three sometimes. Used 5l jerrycan in Australia. Current setup has no practical room for jerrycan so back to using plastic bottles here in Bolivia. Duct tape friction points of the bottles and wrap them in a sock.
