If you guys want to support this channel. Consider picking up a Yoyo at - www.offsetyoyo.com/
Thanks for the support guys. So this is the first official bearing unboxing on this channel...
Shoutouts to Roy Teo from Yoyoranger who sent me these.
My thoughts can be summarised as,
Ceramic bearings are louder in nature and give the Yoyo long spin times, plus an intangible element of personality. I can't describe it other than the Shutter was instantly more fun to play with as soon as I placed a Ceramic Bearing inside it.
Stainless Steel bearings by nature spin quiter, and are more commonly used in Yoyoing.
I enjoyed both bearings and hope you guys found this interesting.

Ceramic bearings spin longer because when they spin they dont get as warm as the ss bearing.🖒
@88Nikoli

They spin longer because there is less friction ( which is obvious as friction is the only thing slowing it down ) and what creates the heat . Stainless get hot because of more friction !

Due to being smoother ball bearings then the stainless and require no lubrication as such..

I wonder if I’ve deserved to play with metals in the first place yet... as mean I think maybe I have, but sometimes, I have doubts. Haven’t hard crashed a throw for months, unless a string broke (never throwing hard with freebie cheesy crap strings again). For learning certain tricks and even binds, I go for plastic cause it hurts less, but as soon as I go to my N12 (my best performing throw yet, believe it or not), suddenly it’s like I hit everything I try, it stays stupid stable even in windy conditions, spins much longer etc. Apart from specific intermediate tricks (still doing the ladder), I mainly kinda practice basic combos. Like, adding stuff in as I learn. Finally I’m feeling like I don’t have to stop all the time, but can just repeat and learn quicker. Stuff is getting more fluid each day it feels like. So, I wonder, is it about time go get a mid range monometal 🧐 as for bearings, I just tend to swap the best ones I have into the throws I use the most. Currently I recon an 8 or 10 ball center trac is my best one lol. PS. Apologies for the layout, mobile devices don’t let me change lines or nothing!

Not a fan. They don't increase performance substantially, and once they tarnish they're basically unusable because your string can't slide across the bearing.

The real advantage to ceramics I see is the fact that ceramics are run dry, ideal for your daily throw since it isn't an oil covered dirt magnet.

I dont deny they are great. I love the DS bearings myself..But, they're all expensive and they don't come in ceramics..that's why i started this personal project of mine to make my own bearings that i wanted to my specifications..at a fraction of the cost..

yea, but anything made in japan is expensive..no doubt they're built fantastic and i do love them..but being made in japan, it's like being made in germany, there's always a premium to pay for that and some people don't mind paying. if you have the doe, then yea, i would recommend the DS bearing anyday..love it..but..many peope can't afford to buy multiples of it..once maybe is still ok but to buy like 5...its expensive..that's the main reason i decided to make my own.,.well, same philosophy as yoyoranger and bringing low prices for top quality..

I've tried one ceramic bearing, and it came in a BST yoyo, I was told it ws pretty new, and it definitely seemed fairly new, it played really smooth, quiet, and performed like a bearing should. I thought it was a really nice bearing, but then after a few hours of play it started screaching (the loudest bearing I've ever used by a large gap in 6 years of throwing) and became responsive, I've noticed most if not all bearings go through a loud period in breaking in so I stuck with it, but after 2 weeks it was somewhat tug responsive and very snaggy, so I gave up on it, and chalked ceramic bearings up to hype. Did I just get a dud? I like to think I just had a dud bearing, because if they were all like this no one would ever use them for yoyoing, but how common is this with ceramics? and are they normally extremely loud after break in? People could hear this thing from a couple rooms down inside my home, it was honestly ridiculous.

Ceramic bearings are more energy efficient as the ball bearings themselves can be made smoother then stainless steel.. Always preferred my bones Swiss ceramics over any other bearings when I skateboarded back in my teens and into my mid 20s. With ceramic you also usually don't need to lubricate them and if fully ceramic can clean them with simple soap and water if they get dirty.

oh, and to answer Brandon why ceramics are better...the material used to make ceramic balls are silicon nitrate which is 3x stronger than steel..so they will last longer than stainless and require no maintenance at all because they're supposed to be self cleaning..Unless stainless where you have to "wash" them once they lock up, you dont need to and actually cannot "wash" ceramics. In summary, they're better in every way as compared to regular stainless..
@yoyocuber2565
@yoyocuber2565 7 жыл бұрын
steel can rust and degrade in diffferent ways than ceramic, however full ceramic is weaker than stainless steel, but overall ceramic is better cause it lasts longer
