Its not the velocity of the brake dust that causes the problems with the barrels due to its low mass. it the temperature of the iron/pad material which could be over 500’C, it literally melts the paint/lacquer finish especially as the finish is preheated by the disc radiating heat in close proximity to the barrel.

I double coated the forged alloys for my Type R with Gyeon Rim. So far so good but I haven’t yet had to wash the wheels to see how easy to clean they will be.

Timed perfectly for me. About to do this very job, using that very product. I would never have thought about leaving it on as is on the back. Great idea.

I put Tac System Moonlight on my rims. Have used it for several years on both winter and summer tires. I think it works well and is very affordable protection for the rims. Quite easy to apply, you should do it every year when you change the tires. The dirt is quite easy to remove without amounts of burned-on brake dust that you want to avoid and having to use rim acid. A petrolium degreaser to dissolve asphalt or similar, then I put fallout over it when the degreaser has worked for 5-10 minutes. Then I put alkaline degreasing Bilt Hamber Surfex HD on top of it, let it work a little then go on with brush and brush. Then all the dirt usually falls away and you don't have to keep rinsing off in several rounds. I will perhaps try putting a real rim seal on 2 of the rims this summer to see and compare. Then it will be Artic Clean ceramic coating on 2 rims then Tacsystem Moonlight on the other side on my private car.

I have the original Gyeon rim coating on my wheels and it’s excellent! As you say makes them easier to clean!

I did the same thing you did for the wheel barrel. I just coated it and left it as is. No one really sees the inside of there anyway and I just want to keep it clean and protected.

dunno mate but Id want at least 200 quid to clean and coat them. thats not a lot of money when you think like a plumber changes 200 to fix a leaking waste pipe.

I see what you mean, regarding cleaning the barrels, it’s very difficult to reach them with the wheels on the car. They look great John, now they’re coated, they should stay clean for longer. Great video, as always❤.
