With cost and ease of procurement in mind, the best choice for me was Cerakote. I went from small orders to now I just order a crate of it when I run low on supplies. Love the stuff, but it was also interesting to see how multiple products faired in the test. Thanks Scott !

I use iso alchohol to prep for ceramic coating, so it would be easy for me to get it along the edge of trim. Good test!

these tests are so clear on which trim restorer and coating products do not hold up at all. An older vehicle in need of a touch up to the faded trim would look sad with most of these. It would be a mistake to apply most of them to newer trim. This cuts through the confusion when trying to compare 4-5 products in the detailing aisle or the embarrassment 3 weeks after trying a specialty online product only to have it marked weak or fail.

Agreed. This test and the other trim test have definitely taught me there are only a handful that will actually last - but all of them are pretty easy to apply to trim. The Adams is marketed towards trim AND headlight lenses .. however if you look at the reviews for the Adams trim and headlight product, people are only using them on headlights and it has terrible reviews as such. (Fogs them up and hard to fix). No reviews as a trim coating which it is clearly marketed towards also. The aisles are full of these types of products. There are hundreds of them to choose from online too. This is why I like to dive into the SDS for them too since most have similar chemicals (like silicone which doesn't last but provides short term results)

@@ScottHD Do any of these products if got onto the cars paint by accident and left it there for months not noticing it will be very hard to remove? products like Malco epic revive, Restoleum Wipe new, Cerakote trim restorer, Solution finish ? also what would you use to take it off the cars paint also how would you apply it without getting it on the paint?

@@r.k862 yes. Some will be very difficult to remove if you get them on the paint and allowed to dry/cure. Solution finish says it's ok to get on paint but remove immediately. Cerakote is damn near impossible to remove if you get it on the paint and you let it dry.

@@r.k862 which product dried on the paint? Let's start there. If it has happened yet, I would just be very proactive. As soon as it accidentally gets in the paint, wipe it off we'll (even something like a detail spray, diluted Isopropyl alcohol, etc should get it). If it's cured on the paint like cerakote or wipe new, it may need to be polished off, or worse - sanded/wetsanded off.

If you do this test again, I like to see Blak and Gloz from Renew Protect in the mix...Been seeing this lately and the testers been raving about it...though not sure if it is them hyping it up but it looks like good reviews on Amazon. On a side note, what is your go to product for cleaning Tires to remove "Tire Bloom"? to bring the tire back to a natural look before dressing... I see so many that make the claim, but I tend to want the best at the job :).

I'll check that out!! I'm going to do another one this fall. Tires - the browning color on them? Wesley's Bleche White from the auto parts store. Works better than any of these specialized "tire cleaners" and is far cheaper!

@@ScottHD Really Wesley's? I have some of that stuff and it didn't do the trick (Maybe to old as it been sitting). It removed some but they still look horid..I know it is common issue with Michelin tires with bronzing/browning. My tires are only 4 months old and you think they are 5 years old!! Thanks Again!

@@ScottHD Oh I have a good brush...Boar Brush..your normal hand tuff bristle brush and one I used that was new I just got, Drill Wheel surface brush. Maybe it is the Texas weather compare to NY here? *shrugs* I think the product was just old..I mean like 2 years old as it was all I had right now.

I see that Griots now offers a ceramic trim coating wipe. They say 2 years or 200 washes longevity. 4 count pack in the catalog is $20.99 so kind of expensive.

It seems to be a common thing for some reason. Meguiars M688 ceramic coating (their old coating)... Great coating - the discontinued it. Their new hybrid paint coating is doing well too and they just cut the price in half. Hope they aren't discontinuing it!

Regarding your post durability test durability test: you are EXACTLY wrong. It is much more likely that I would spray my trim with any of the non-gasoline products than gasoline. Think about it: you're fueling your car. How is the gas migrating from the pump to your trim? Spilled gasoline on my car would never get anywhere near the trim. Alcohol? Prepare your paint for correction and you'll likely spray dilute isopropyl alcohol on your trim as a result of its use on your paint to remove sealers or other paint-surface chemicals. Simple Green? People use it to clean everything. It could easily end up on the trim when cleaning some other part of your car. Adhesive remover? OF COURSE, you want to remove that political candidate bumper sticker from your car. What better than adhesive remover? Any of these situations stands a far greater chance of occurring than spraying gasoline willy nilly and having it hit my car's trim, none of it which is downstream from the gasoline fuel filler inlet.

My Nissan Titan has the trim from the wheel well right under the gas filler. I've gotten gas on it from topping it up a few times.

I have a 4x4 Pathfinder and spilled gas wouldn't get on any trim, if you could find the trim from being covered in mud or removed by other bad drivings peeling it off as they smash into my truck. Trucks are like tools? they're meant to be used, and used well, not pampered like a 9 year old girl, or your expensive crystal & china, or your favorite band concert t-shirt from 25 years ago. Drive that sucker like you mean business. If it cries over a little gasoline threaten it with acetone & muriatic acid. Gas is like a kiss from a girl compared to those household chemicals. Don't let you truck tell you who's boss, YOU tell it that it's YOU and you ain't putting up with any of it's gas-avoiding shenanigans! When I spill gasoline on my Corvette, which is never because I'm careful that way, I just wipe it off. One word: clearcoat. Maybe that's two words: clear coat. Hmm. Doesn't quite have the same effect, but at least it isn't flagged as a spelling error. Online dictionaries are for squares.

@@bubblehead7680 You know what? I spilled a drop of Techron on the side of my Corvette when I was pouring some in the gas tank (as recommended by the GM owner's manual). You know what I did? They had these handy towel dispensers right there at the gas pumps. Soapy water too in these low, square buckets right next to the paper towels & trashcan (I guess for quick, impromptu baths after long road trips). So what I did was, I walked over there and got some of those paper towels (they were there for free, they were just giving them away). I dipped a couple in a bit of that soapy water, but some I just left dry. I wiped up that Techron with those damp towels, and then used the not damp ones to dry the whole Techron/water soup I just created off the side of the car. You know what? It's as if it never happened. You can't see a mark, or a stain, or a scratch, or anything. The combination of my quick action, and the car's clearcoat over the paint, created a sort of stain barrier to that Techron. It was like magic was happening, right there, & I was the magician. Me, and those paper towels. Magic.

What none of you address is what is the best to use on a new car? I don't want shinny crap on my brand-new BMW, yet I want to protect it. And none of you address that, what do you think all of us only have old cars ??? come on!
