What is cerebral palsy? Cerebral palsy is a term used to describe a wide range of issues that have to do with muscle movements that result from some trauma or injury to the brain during development. This video covers the three primary categories of cerebral palsy: spastic, dyskinetic, and ataxic. It also covers other symptoms and common treatment methods.

My foster baby was recently diagnosed with CP. Her biological mother regularly abused heroin (and possibly other drugs) during the first trimester and some of the second trimester. Biomom was incarcerated when she was almost 5 months pregnant and was put on methadone. My foster baby was born at 6.5 months and had methadone in her system but no symptoms of withdrawal or drug dependence (addiction). I was wondering if the history of drug usage would be a contributing factor to the baby’s CP diagnosis?

Unfortunately, the ambulance team contributed to my son being without oxygen when he was 2 months old and now my son is having these symptoms and unable to do things on his own at 22 months old.
