I had 2 level cervical disc replacement surgery in Dec 2022, I’m making strong recovery, going for weekly Biokinetics sessions & continuing with my physio exercises. Thanks for sharing your story, this will help other people to know that having the surgery provides such profound relief & gives you a second chance at life. Take care 😊

Hi, thanks for your comment and apologies for delayed reply. I'm doing really well. I've had a couple of back spasms post surgery, but have been reassured that it's nothing to worry about. I'm currently working on strengthening my core to better support my spine and neck. - Sean

Thanks for the wonderful video series Sean. I'm also a Capetonian, originally, but I live in the USA, where artificial discs are extremely rare. I went to Germany in 2001 (22 years ago) and had a lumbar (l4/5) artificial disc, and spend 5 years paying it off because health insurance doesn't pay for it. My results are stellar, still, after 22 years. I recently had an accident and my neck is messed up now, so I need cervical spine surgery. Obviously, I'm favoring a disc replacement, but local surgeons advocate fusion. So I may be off to Germany again, or, I might go to SA for that. Could you please share the name of your surgeon with me, and maybe some contact information? Thanks in advance. -Gary

Hi Sean, Thank you for sharing your experience. I am very glad you are doing well. I have similar stiffness/spasm chronically like you did in neck, above shoulder blade and rhombus area , but I do not have arm pain or tingling much. But other than that, I feel like I have 70% matching symptoms like you did, I watched your pre-surgery video as well. I don't have much of pain, it just muscle spams/stiffness with lots of nagging discomforts. I mostly have neuroforamina and osteophytes in C5-C6 and C5-C6, and have not been told I have any disc herniation. I do have limited neck mobilization due to chronic stiffness/spasm. Did you get the stiffness/spasm relief? How are you doing now?

Yes, the surgery gave me major relief and I have minimal stiffness and/or spasms. Am back to swimming, running and have also added surf ski paddling to my mix of outdoor exercise.

If you don't mind, what type of discs were used and at what levels were your surgery? It is nice to see you had a good recovery too.

What kind of exercise did you do after a month and the pain of your fingers disappeared after a few days؟ Thank you.

I worked closely with my physio for 2-3 months post surgery. She helped with mobilisation and have me a selection of light stretches and exercises to do as part of my recovery. My advice would be to work with a trusted physio. Hope that helps. Wishing you all the best. - Sean
