Your video brought back lots of fond memories. My Dad had a 1955 C170. He flew it off a 1500' sod airstrip where we lived. We took many family trips and had a few "adventures" (mostly weather) on some of them. Those big flaps worked really well getting into and off our strip. He later upgraded to a Skylane for better performance. I did lots of flying from the right seat in the 170. That was my last tail-dragger. I went on to a corporate flying career of 31 years in various jets. I'm retired now and only fly in my dreams.

I have a question, since you said you now only fly in your dreams. Have you heard of FSX, X- Plane 11, and MFS2020? They are flight simulators and would help bring you back into flying, albeit it virtual reality, but better than dreaming xD You would need a good computer/laptop for X- Plane 11, and a really good PC for MFS2020. However, FSX can run great with almost any PC.

It’s now almost 30 years ago, that I flew in a rag wing 170 all the way from Chile up to Canada in a two and a half week journey. On my first day I run into a sand storm in the Atacama desert and had to land on a road, because I lacked visibility to fly into the Antofagasta airport. I flew the whole trip without GPS, solely by compass headings and stopping leg times, dealt with heavy coastal fog, tropical lightning storms and severe turbulence. The 170 managed everything just fine even digested lead free car gas in Ecuador without any issue. A wonderful airplane!😁👍

Loved this video and this 170. I just saw my Grandfather this thanksgiving, 2018. He is 101 years old now. He inspired me to fly by taking me up in his 170 when I was around 3 years old. The 170 was the last airplane he owned, he owned a few. When I got my PPL I was so glad that I was able to take him up flying. I gave him the controls and he did great. This was in 2002. We were in a 180 HP C172 with tuned exhaust and a constant speed prop. Fun plane. Thanks for the video!

Jeff, that is a stunning 170A. Like you, I grew up washing and fueling planes for flight time at a grass strip. My dad had a 1950 A model (N9772A), and we flew the wheels off that bird. This video brings back so many good memories - the sound of that engine, the bounce of the yoke and those knobs on the instrument panel. You felt like a master when you wheel-landed her, and a rookie when you bounced her. Email me if you ever make it down to Aranasas County Airport in Rockport and I'll buy ya lunch. First rate! Thank You!

Bobby, thanx for starting this vlog! love sailing doodles but aviation has always been my dream. I'm 50 yo now with two young children and practice medicine in a rural small town and these videos and your vlog have helped rekindle the flame. I joined the Navy when I was 17 to fly as a helicopter crew chief and rescue swimmer and logged over 1000 hours and traveled around the world but had to put my flight dream aside to keep pace with "life". I've realized in watching vlogs like yours and steveo1 that there is no time like the now. These stories you share are inspiring! Thanx!

I started flying when I was 16, but didn't get my license.Went into the Navy at 18 to be a jet mechanic and got stationed on an aircraft carrier to do a med cruise and see the world! I'm 50 now like you and I watch both the channels you mentioned and it has also sparked a flame in me to go back and get my license! It's interesting how our stories are similar and how these videos can make a difference in you life!

I always loved to fly. I never had the money of a doctor so I had to do it for a living. I have about 8000 hours in helicopters now. Sometimes its a pain but usually its a lot of fun. You will never get today back and there are always reasons to wait. Don't wait. Do it now.

Jeff is obviously a seasoned pilot with great attention to detail. I flew in an Aronca tail drager several decades ago and did a ground loop during a cross wind landing at John Wayne airport in Orange Co. I was looking down at the right landing wheel and saw it collapse. Quite exciting. If you can find an Aronca (sp?) as an episode subject, that would be cool. Love Flyin' Doodles.

A nice classic, and so much fun as you see everything in those. Some will grump about that old of a aircraft..but they made those like tanks, and when the engine is properly cared for, they are amazingly safe. Just wish the weather would have cooperated better for you guys. And yes, have flown tail wheels before..so many years ago now, but remember that view, as they are normally all windows.
