Seeing how expensive the store bought keyboards can get, it only made sense to get into custom builds, plus they just look 100x better

Tbh, the main reason I like customs is just the fact that I built it, like the idea that this is something that I built with my own two hands

As a wooting60he owner, i did feel it improved my actuation consistency a lot and reduced fatigue. And i swear to never use anything else without that tech for competing. BUT for typing, its absolutely horrible compared to a fully custom keyboard. If you do plan to use your setup for productivity and gaming, and you want a wooting. please get a separate keyboard aswell and alternate between the wooting and a separate custom keyboard. Wooting has done something amazing by being the first company to release the rapid trigger technology for a hall effect switch. But at the moment, if you are a casual player, just get a custom and wait for hall effect switches to mature. The keyboard is really hard to mod at the time of this comment. Side note: Your videos are super well made!

I think it completely depends… i have a custom keeb for typing and work and a apex pro for gaming. The biggest problem is that some games benefit so much from higher polling rates and lighter switches with fast actuation. The pcbs on the custom market are just not designed for gaming, you have to flash them to get 1000hz, nkey rollover etc. and even then sometimes it’s not even true 1000hz as the chips on the pcbs are simply not designed for that purpose, it feels like having input delay. Same with switches… the good sounding switches on the custom market have a way to long travel distance or are simply too heavy for fast games. so you end up with speed silvers as they are the fastest available and then struggle with the sound not being great, even after lubing. I think the best route to go is either one custom and one gaming or a wooting. The market for custom gaming is just not separated enough, we legit only have wooting which is sad. If you play valorant, league or whatever other game that is slower paced then you definitely can go with a custom. If you play osu, fortnite or anything fast paced where you legit spam your keyboard like its a contest then please get a wooting/apex pro/huntsman mini. That’s atleast my experience so far

I think right now the main advantage of gaming keyboards is most big brands have 8000hz polling vs 1000hz on most custom boards. Now I know the difference between 1ms and .125ms might not be all that huge, but I guess for pro gamers it might matter. I just got into custom keyboards to replace my razer huntsman mini which had 8000hz polling as well as optical switches. But I am no where near competitive enough for it to matter.

not gonna lie, after improving so much getting SOLID AF games even on a laptop, I do now care more about the keyboard quality rather than just "BEST FASTEST LATENCY KEEB WOOT" lol keebs running at a solid stable 1000hz poll rate is more than enough rn

Customs are def the way to go but if you want a low profile board for your wrists or are an rgb freak I would go a gaming keyboard personally

A $55 Tecware Phantom plus is way better than almost every major brand's gaming keyboards imo.
