In a dark subway tunnel, a group of mice find a gold ring-pull that seems to have a mysterious effect on one of them.
Not so far from them, an owl and his enslaved rats are watching. The owl sends his rats to get hold of this strange object...

Excellent example of scale. Take an epic that lasts three books and 10 hours, reduce the size of the participants to mice and rats. This reduces the scale from a small continent to a train station, which in turn reduces the running time to 4:33. A lot of details were skipped, but a few key ones were included in full slow motion, so the pacing wasn't rushed. Genius. Note to story tellers and other creators - if your story is too big to tell with the resources you have, make it smaller but still interesting. Use this as a launch pad for larger stories later. Or tell a common story in a new way that respects the source. Even great writers often started by retelling other stories in their own way as children.

On one hand, that's an obvious and expected ending - telling a LOTR-ish story with real world mice and then cutting it suddenly, because a real world thing happens. On the other hand, it'd be disappointing if the story wouldn't end this way, would have felt like a missed opportunity. Guess I can't complain - for a short movie, this is a good plot with a fitting twist ending.

All around really good animation and cute characters. Some word of advice if you do something relating to mice/rats again, though. The majority of the mice, IE the mouse army, should be brown/dark grey. White mice are rarely found in the wild. Also, rats are about five times bigger than a mouse. Other than that (which is really just a nit pick by a mouse person, lol) it's amazing!
