There is no wonder why this film got multiple awards. Despite how many times we fail, we need patience to get back as soon as possible. No matter what life throws at you , we should work on what we are passionate about without complaining.

Sometimes, it feels just like that: That you have finally finished, against all the odds, and despite your own frailty! You’ve accomplished the goal, and earned the rest…only to ruin it all with a hasty reaction to someone who does not regard your suffering, effort and purpose. Even so, you can’t let it go when you deem the goal a worthy one.

This being shown to me now, 28 April 2022, made me laugh and tear up at the same time. When you ascend, it doesn't mean your trials end. It simply means, it takes a different direction.

This is definitely an award winning video. Just reading the comments shows us, how each person perceives the one video and interprets it according to their own belief system and conviction. It can be seen in so many different ways and that is why it deserves the title of award winning. Anyways, points I took away: To ascend the mountain is something each of us in life are pursuing. The ascension to the top with our "prized possession". The person carrying the prized possession gives it their best and literally "breaks a leg". The person supporting their ascension will do anything for them to help them on their climb to the top. They help them by making the decent for them and help them up by "giving them a leg up" When it comes to the person with their "prized possession or gift" aiming to "give a person a hand up", sometimes they "give up an arm and a leg" but the person supporting might fall to their lowest point before facing their own challenges and making their climb back up. Meanwhile, the person with the gift continues to persevere through their current challenge and no support but make it to the top. The person now coming back up with the arm and a leg has the best intention and is determined to make it back to the the top as well to continue their ascension together. It's then that point "the hawk or eagle" (both birds of prey which can represent wisdom, clarity, freedom, courage, could represent in this instance utlising the statue for religious purposes, swiftness in a prayer, as it does take the hand and magically deliver to the top of the mountain) Second person makes their journey back up with more experience in the climb up and gives the person with the gift their just belongings, which helped them on their journey up. They both get to share in the amazing view from the top before the eagle or hawk takes rest in their victory.. again, maybe a representation of prayer of thanks to go heaven bound! Instead, person 2 throws a rock, knocking the gift and causing a fall from grace or a fall in their achievement of their first victory. Together, they make the decent to collect their gift again and make the journey up the mountain more experienced and wiser. That was my interpretation anyways... However, it could just be me reading too much into everything and it could just be two people climbing a mountain and have a great experience and build a better relationship through it all =)

(to 3 years ago) Yes, but they do not just enjoy the view from the top. They took that photograph, probably all they needed for proof, for posterity, and to collect their pay. No statue can stand forever in that environment, but they have the work ethic to return to the pit, when the statue has fallen, and replace it, even though nobody else will ever see it up there, and even though, it is never going to be secured there. Technically, maybe, they should have left the statue, and come back when they had the tools to build it a shelter, to keep it there. However, there is a great theme in the love they have for the statue coming, not in spite of their trials but, also, in part, because of them. The more we work for something, the more we will value it.

I feel that this is a commentary about having a higher purpose, one that makes perfect sense to you, but one that other people might not understand. And having a like-minded person with whom you may share the burden, makes the burden seem that much less. This is about man's perseverance in the face of all obstacles to do what he sees as his higher calling, to have a purpose greater than him, and to do more than just to serve himself. This little vignette may have some important meaning even for someone who is not religious. This illustrates the point that you try to find a purpose outside of yourself, something either for the greater good or for the glory of something that you believe in. It can be very fulfilling.

Ascension. In life we keep trying harder no matter how hard the task is. No matter how many times we are pushed down or face hurdles. We keep trying and with each try we ascend above. forget the statue and look and find the meaning. Everything Thing has a meaning and a purpose.

For me, i thought the hawk was life, and the statue a dream these two men wanted to accomplish. Life (the hawk) would try to stop them from achieving their dream, but they never gave up no matter what. I think in the end, they either achieved their goal, or came to realize it was the journey that counted.

Yep, I had almost the same thoughts. I suggested that the hawk could be the nature and the statue - humanity. The men are in constant struggle to raise themselves. They "conquer" the mountain despite the natural obstacles and even throw stone at the nature, trying to protect their achievement. The nature is not necessary "bad" or "good", it is just neutral, casual, but maybe it's force depends on the attitude of the humans? Knocking down the statue is not intentional, just appearance of the entropy... or maybe consequence of the human act itself?

It's not about what you drop on the way up the ladder of life. It's about what is more important, that, which, you are trying to accomplish as you go. Once you get there, there's always someone or something that will always try to screw it up or take it from you. In the end, It's how you accept the disappointments with your achievements. It's about taking the good with the bad that can make you or break you, and still try to remain humble as a person.

For those who are confused, I think the point of the story is: for faith, you'll keep climbing mountains, full of obstacles, even known that there is a probability of fail in the end. Seems to me that are a message of love, friendship and sacrifice... I loved this animation short film. Perfect in various points of view. I just didn't appreciate the image of Virgin Mary... Faith is one thing. Religion is other thing, completly different.

The Virgin Mary is more a metaphor for what we think enlightenment is. The peak of our understanding based on a handed down precept. The Golden Bird had other plans. Those guys are going to keep trying to put that idol up there, but to no avail. It's not the idol that they really seek.
@antionettewardell2151

How does one know the difference if they don't have their idols? They choose the Virgin Mary? Why her? Why not Jesus Christ or Dali Lama? Faith is taught to us by using stories and symbols. She was the woman against all odds having a baby that was in danger of being killed. She had faith that she could get him to safety by her husband Joseph.

Are we really not going to talk about how these two climbers are higher beings? Of course they have ascended before and made it. Not only do they have the endurance, fortitude, and perseverance but also they don’t need food or water and most importantly, they can reattach their own limbs! Another clue to their previous successful ascension is that they don’t stop to pray 🙏. The statue however is in a constant state of prayer, meaningfully so. The only nemesis of the two ascenders and the statue is a bird of prey, good play on pray/prey. So there’s the rub, these two keep having to achieve something more to do what preys upon their goal in order to reach yet higher goals. In this scenario, to bring what is thought of as sacred to the tippy top spot of ascension to attempt to prove that even that which symbolizes the holy can ascend and become holy. This is where it gets really deep and esoteric, they are helping those down below bring their beliefs and most revered sacred symbols to the top of the mountain, not to give religion per se a higher or more grandiose meaning but to help religion ascend it’s own self righteousness, to cause it to go beyond the holier than thou grip it has on the masses, to truly take on some mastery as a stepping stone to something higher, to stop falling from grace so that in the end it can explain itself as not just symbolic but a part of the path all are on to ascension. Of course we never see the symbol, the statue, realize that goal, it is basically a futile process, it’s the climbers who reach the heights, who have the success as they enact more than symbolism, they achieve. The real spiritual gift is in something far greater than anything one believes but rather it is central to the spiritual stamina one has inside and the willingness to continually move beyond the seeming limitations, to work in harmony and to achieve the greatest dream one can dream, one’s own ascension and supporting the ascension of others.

Try and try again is our nature to persevere. Don't get stuck in complaining about your struggle. Don't blame anyone about how challenging life is. Don't drown in your anguish of the obstacles in your way. Just do it, succeed, the world needs you.

Moral of the story: Sometimes it takes an arm and a leg to get to the top of the mountain even when life is giving you the bird.

I like, except I think they saw the bird as a problem but he dropped the leg off to the woman and when he perched on Our Lady, she didn't budge. It was only when the man got upset that the bird joined in that it fell.

I read the comments after watching this film. I knew with the device of a religious icon (Blessed Mother) was going to kick the hornets nest of comments. I laughed almost as hard at the comments as I did the movie. You all, never disappoint! Was anyone else suddenly yelling things like, "NO!", "REALLY!", "OMG!" and maybe even cussing the bird out while giggling a little? I mean C'MON! It's like the things life throws your way, Murphy's Law, and even the ups and downs of life and everything! Yet, perseverance in life. Overcoming and defeating all life has to throw at us against the odds. Well done in this short, and it's interpretation!

This one tributes only to Christ.. When those in faith climb the mountain advancing their limitations and hardship.. The Devil might strike us down to a far worse stage than we ever started.. but that would be only, to achieve that which was deemed impossible twice!
