Hi KJ, Some of fundamental issue has to be addressed.. otherwise it is just another half-baked initiative.. I remember many years back, a journalist ask Muhydin -about Satu Malaysia… who come first? The then deputy PM said “Malay come first”. If the SEZ consist of such race-based policy or religious-based policy, it is a formula of failure. Malaysia is now endangered by religious party to take over the driver seat.. especially creates so many Halal things.. Can current Federal Gov give 100 years guarantee for non-ethnic or religion policy in SEZ? It is a sensitive question but if the rules makers are determine to make SEZ a success, they have to be firmed in execution the plan.

The only way that this project can be successful is for SG and Johore to merge into one entity thereby eliminating the need for passport control. Likewise, the federal govt should not interfere whatsoever, otherwise a change of govt will derail the project. A good example is the HSR project. Are these conditions acceptable?

I have high hopes in the reforming Malaysian government and I believe it is on the right track for its people. I have no doubt that within 5 years or even half that time, Malaysia will be more vibrant, more creative and a more enjoyable place than Singapore, as a key partner of China's OBOR. As for now, I believe China has already injected and promised more than $200b into Malaysia's economy. Any talk about Singapore-Johor economic collaboration must involve the larger China-Malaysia OBOR goals, which are serious threats to Singapore's economic model. So far, Singapore has gained nothing from OBOR (largely by her own wish) while more than half the world has benefited in no small measure. My point is this - what is Singapore's gain by engaging with Johor? Singapore will continue to lose more ground to Msia as a result of Malaysia's strong partnership with China. Thus, we cannot talk about a full-blown economic zone with Johor at this juncture unless Singapore is also integrated with OBOR and can reap benefits larger than what Johor alone can offer. But will Singapore even if such is the case? It is without doubt and inevitable that Malaysia will become an economic powerhouse, many times more than Singapore. It will draw in talents from all over very fast owing to its culture, low cost of living, and a haven for lifestyle seekers. I believe that the Iskandar Project will surely gain its rightful status in the months ahead. Johor will be THE Malaysia state.

Bumi policy how? Johor has a very good chance now as cost in Singapore for her SMEs are out of control. For MNCs with huge EDB incentives, and financial sectors, they can afford Singapore cost which is one of the highest in the world. If Johor can give 200% confident that Bumi policy is forever not applying then Johor has a good chance to get good quality SMEs to move over.
