Dear KJ, here are three challenges facing HEI in Malaysia from the perspectives of highly experienced academicians i met in the past: 1. Increasing academic dishonesty among staff due to the 'publish or perish' culture as universities compete for higher rankings. 2. Decreasing recruitment of new students at an alarming rate at some universities/programmes. 3. Disconnections between local and international students academically. Hope you can reflect these issues to the minister in future and ask for some feasible action plans.

AN audience asked to Khairy the above, which isn't effective. In the work culture of Maleshiaa, the person prompting a dialogue, is doing it in his own interest, he is not interested in implementation. SEcondly, what programmes? Which universities? Say it with courage and clarity. People attacking you back based on defamation claims only works on dishonest lies. THirdly, what is disconnections ... academically? Oh goodness. Manglish. Either Penang, Perak, Melaka, small pockets of Manglish speaking teachers produce half baked results among the students. In Selangor, KL, we don't learn English just from Tamil, Malay, Chinese teachers. Those syiok sendiri speeches they make only intimidates and confuses.

There are disconnects between secondary and tertiary education in Malaysia. e.g. To apply for USM Penang , it is a requirement to have credit in SPM Bahasa Malaysia. But after you have gained entry, you must study Bahasa Malaysia again and must pass before you can graduate ! Is this ridiculous ?

English should have been given proper emphasis since 1980. If that was done our population would have been of good demand by prominent Universities in the world. Today the situation is just the opposite. Don't kacau bilau LANGUAGE SUBJECTS ESPECIALLY ENGLISH BECAUSE OUTSIDE THERE WITHOUT MASTERING ENGLISH WE HAVE BEEN LEFT FAR BEHIND. Let us not go further backwards.

ramai risau penguasaan bahasa inggeris orang malaysia terutama melayu. eh,banyak negara maju di eropah, jepun,korea selatan pun tak fasih english. maju je. china lagi la teruk tapi negara kuasa dunia jugak. kena cari apa yg salah dengan pendidikan kita hingga sukar nak jadi negara maju sekurangnya mengalahkan negara jiran terdekat.

Psal tu ramai ibu bapa dr Korea, Jepun dan China bawa ank2 mereka dtg belajar di Malaysia sebab di Malaysia ada pilihan utk bljr dlm BI. Negara kita ke belakang sebab 5 tahun yg lps org2 politik lbh pentingkan personal interest drpd nation building. Akibatnya negara2 jiran maju ke depan sementara kita tercicir ke belakang

Yang maju2 ni semua nenek moyang dia dihantar ke barat , ambil kepakaran dan ilmu mereka ,bawa balik ke negara asal dan majukan sendiri bersama orang2 tempatan . Mereka percaya kemampuan mereka sendiri .Sebab tu bahasa mereka relevan . Jerman sebelum maju tak guna bahasa sendiri . Banyak guna bahasa lain seperti perancis dan inggeris yang lebih dominan. Bila dah maju,mereka perlahan2 guna bahasa sendiri .

Private Instituition in Malaysia was born for the polarised, racist & useless policies in public-universities thus mixing it with humanitarian propaganda as Gaza is both laughable & mockery of the humanitarian term itself! Anyhow, it's a blessing in disguise, the private-institution was born, thus bringing our generation further-away from the nonsense 'p-h-d' disgrace in public-universities as such!

Wanna go into AI how many eminent Professors, Lecturing Doctorates, industrial experts have u hired to lecture, worked, to do research, offer grants to, form alliances etc with local universities? All these committee chaired by politicians, same people in universities whom are they experts or has any in-depth and latest knowledge of AI??? Please....

Quantity not quality. Hiring & Promotion based on......??? Local unis no more a choice of students after SPM. Even fewer taking STPM route. How can one say things are good when graduates are jobless or not able to find jobs in their respective field?

Sorry to say, the interview didnt manage to deeply discuss on the direction and vision or new aspiration on higher education, rather its more focus on elaborating on what is currently happening and on going on Malaysia education ecosystem.

First things first, I hope our future generations can speak English if not as well or sufficiently as well as YB and KJ. But then again I'm not that optimistic due to the ongoing issues with DLP, etc. Heck, English is not even a compulsory subject to pass in the SPM, so no compulsion and motivation there to learn the language. I would even say may be 80%-90% of Malaysians watching this video right now do not even understand what was being discussed here or the abundance of information and knowledge available online which by the way is surprise surprise predominantly in English. Btw, has anyone seen any video footage of our Education Minister speaking in English?

@sjdfa Oh saw it Thank you. Her English is good. Can't say the same for the majority of Malaysians though. She sounds more like a typical lawyer, quite defensive. Don't think she's suited for this very important portfolio, it's beyond her pay grade similar to the former health minister.

Sorry, this can make some people angry..but this is my personal opinion..Why need to make Sejarah as a compulsory to SPM?? Does anywhere in our life we use sejarah and the sejarah in Malaysia is all are made suiting each Politician party.. But English is a must..Make English as compulsory, because till SPM only the kids use malay, when they are in matrikulasi or university all are in English.. We need to know Malay for Listening, speaking and writing and not for any other education needs, except if the student want to Malay literature, Language teacher or any other things that use Malay as a language for the course purpose. But, of course as Malaysians we need to know Malay to communicate. Make it interesting, not not compulsory, that is the problem in our country. Kids learn it easily when they love at it, and not by pushing on them..

We need to change the mission and vision of HEIs, from being a paper mill, churning out graduates with no actual skill, HEI Minister should ignore these private HEI who exist only to make a profit, we now change the mindset of our young, we should encourage our young to stop getting useless degrees but rather get trained in a skill job, like electrical, carpentry, plumbing, leather craft, automobile repair, and etc, we should emulate Germany, Japan. Lets get our Polytechnics to focus on specialized skills, one Polytechnic one specialized skill.

What a waste of time by a Minister, rather than ensuring Our Malaysian Students getting the relevant skill to be globally competitive, he is working for private HEI to make it easy for foreign students to come to Malaysia and study.

This is the ROAD MAP. There are numerous NEW UpSkill Programs already developed These programmes are expensive but with MY Government HELP and means tested including entrance Tests, accessibility can be obtained. MY Government MUST subsidise to enable MY to be more a more highly developed workforce to attract the best FDI. Start from basic Certificate programme to Master Skills with Capstone Stone Project (12 Industry case project work). Malaysian prefer hands on learning and professional development with a Mentor. We can affiliate with Indian Universities to access their talent in AI or ML. AI training is here. Want to do a Certificate Course from MIT Sloane - AI for Business Strategy Implications for 6 weeks. Only NEED Commitment to learning and being competitive in the job market. Comment below and I will disclose how.

In kindergarten and primary school he good in English but when in secondary school, Anwar Ibrahim as Education Minister on that time close the subject use in English and change to Bahasa Baku. Since then he can't speak English. Now he disappointed because he can't work professionally in oversea with high salary. Does PMX isn't accountable for his life.

We used to have some of best institutions like UM in this part of the world. Look at what has happened to UM . Our medical school in UM was one of the best SEA at the very least . Unfortunately, its medical deg is not even recognised by the UK and perhaps europe. Please please provide msians with good quality education before talking about attracting students from.foreign countries..

Both of them can speak in English. The elite can but my guesstimate is 80% of uni student in Public University cannot speak fluent english. Our public uni is a breeding ground for racism with quota system. An institution where mediocrity is accepted churning out kangkung graduates and professors. Everybody knows it but most would not admit it. Since Atuk Ah Tun became PM and pejuang Melayu mediocrity and hence corruption is the new normal in Malaysia. Both of them sit on the stage and talk crap. Not dealing with the core rot of our society and future generations.. Shame.
