You could create new vertex map, and put original old vertex map inside with layer mode average to get smooth result, without increasing geometry

Thanks for the tutorial! You could also just plug the vertex map into a Redshift Material Blender node, to render the trails in Redshift.

Totally, I like to have a bit more control over it in comp though but you can absolutely do it all straight in the render

great job m8, fantastic tut. Just one question. How do we export the alpha pass using the physical or arnold renderer?

Cheers kazi, if you can pipe the vertex map into a physical or arnold shader you should be good to go - we only use Redshift and Octane though so not entirely sure

Thanks for this! Can one export the trail without using Redshift but normal C4D tools/render? or can it be done within C4D instead of AE? Thanks again

Yep you can pipe a vertex map into a legacy c4d Shader as well

thank you for the tutorial. but i have a problem with c4d R26. the "mix animation" button does not exist. so your "free project" does not work. Can you help me please

Unfortunately this tutorial is based on the new features added to C4D 2023, you can install R2023 along side R26, I keep switching back and forth too because 2023 has a lot of bugs!
