Hello James, thank you for the quality content Could you please explain something to me. Mostly I drink reds in the $25-$50 price range from all over the world , and there is a lot of wine particularly the past year or two that you rate as 92 to 96 point wines. I remember Not too long ago it was really hard to get a score of 92 points or higher How is it that some of these wines that are $400 to $900 price range like this tasting in this video getting lower scores? With that said, I do understand that price isn’t connected with quality in all cases. Or are you being little too generous on your scores with the lower priced wines .

Never understood spitting out beautiful wine unless you’re trying many wines, but even that is dumb.

Think about it for a minute. There's a big difference if your day job is tasting wine... I go to tastings a few times a year and I usually don't spit, but if you're doing it pretty much every day you'd quite quicky develop alcoholism and liver disease. So of course, a professional taster would have to spit. It's no different than a sound technician at rock concerts wear ear protection. Doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate music does it? Just means he cares about his hearing.

@@henrikjohansson6629 You make good points but I'm specifically talking about the super rare high dollar wines like Masseto, Rothschild, Latour, etc. I've seen him spit those out. Maybe he just wants to keep his head clear so as to decipher all the notes accurately...

@@user-zx1ir7jt4c Thing is that for most wine critics I don't think it really matters much what the wine is. If they're sampling to review it's just another day at the office. If we talk about just expensive left bank Bordeaux you might be sampling flights of top wines (mainly first and second growths). These are pretty much at the same level of quality, so why would you spit some but not others? You might work through flights of Mouton, Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Haut Brion, La Mission, Montrose, Cos d'Estournel, Palmer, Pichon x2, Leoville x3, Pontet-Canet, etc. Maybe several vintages of each. Appart from the health aspects, how would you ensure consistency in notes and scores from wine 1 to wine 50 if you drank them all? It's just good practice for a wine critic to spit. If they're tasting to evaluate the wine it's not really about their enjoyment but about objectively reviewing. It would be different if they sat down for a dinner.
