Just loved these guys, so sad all those days are long gone. Just clean straight music an era long gone. Never realized how fast 45 years could go :(

Saw these guys in New York in the '80s at one of those British Invasion package tours. Chad & Jeremy were the most impressive act on the bill. Excellent.

Chad Stuart, of the English singing duo of Chad & Jeremy, died on December 20th, 2020 at his home in Hailey, Idaho of pneumonia. He was 79 years old... Between 1963 and 1966 the duo had eleven records on Billboard's Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "A Summer Song", it peaked at #7 {for 2 weeks} in October of 1964... They had two Top 20 records, "Willow Weep For Me" {#15 in 1964} and "Before and After" {#17 in 1965}... Surprisingly, they had only one charted record in their native England, "Yesterday's Gone", it reached #37 in 1963... May Mr. Stuart R.I.P.

I saw them in concert and had such a crush on Jeremy! They are both still very good performers and Chad now teaches music at a college in Idaho now.

They still are the most impressive. They are timeless.

Wow, no girls in skimpy outfits disgracing themselves, no guys with a bazillion chains around their necks, no flashing of money all through the video. No references to drugs or alcohol. No jumping out into the crowd and fighting. How did we survive...great memories man...thanks.

My first 'concert' was Chad and Jeremy Baptist College Charleston, South Carolina spring 1966 they were wonderful. First part of the show was just the two of them w acoustics. Second half brought out a drummer and a bassist (James William Guercio who later discovered and produced The Buckinghams and Chicago). Chad brought out his doubleneck electric I remember 'Stormy Monday lues' as part of the 2nd half. I was in 10th grade.....

On this day in 1964 {November 28th} Chad & Jeremy performed "Willow Weep for Me" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Two weeks earlier on November 14th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #15 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #13 on the Canadian RPM Tracks chart... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...

C & J played the "Redcoats" on the old Dick Van Dyke Show, a British duo, mobbed by teen girls, who were to play Allen Brady Show. Episode: The Redcoats are Coming. Airdate: Feb. 10 1965

Chad And Jeremy's recent work is thankfully on par with this 1964 World Artists label monster classic. They are superb live and still more than hold their own in the studio.

And the background brass is very interesting, even though this version doesn't have the sparkling harmonies of the Lettermen version, musically this reminds me of several other early 60s hits that incorporate the same background brass.

This is an exceptrionally gentle, thoughtful, tender song. What are you expecting -- ganngster rap? Their performance is PERFECT for this song, which reached #15 on the charts in 1964.

I love disco and its love child, House music. lol And I see what u mean about music being "crappy" but thats how music evolves. You do realize that this is exactly how some baby boom parents felt about early rock and roll and probably how I'll feel about the generic r&b/pop/electro crap my kids will be bombarded with. :)

There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow... Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave... Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind...

Great. I suspect they were actually doing this live (TV performances of the day were generally always lip sync work), as this performance of the song has different mix and backup than the hit recording. What show is this from?

@wandre9 Well Gordon could DEFINITELY take the willowy Jeremy- his counterpart. However Peter may have some trouble with Chad. Peter is frail and Chad may get the drop.

umm... correction lol I meant this genre and(good) rap takes alot of skill. [Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Nas, JayZ etc]
@henryhill9215 жыл бұрын
Yes, albums like Illmatic by Nas and Me Against the World by 2Pac are on the same level. Musically, they are incomparable. Really, comparision is just pointless because they are so different. But they are just as great. Those albums influenced and changed rock music, the albums i mentioned did the same for rap. And rap is the most lyrical genre bar none. Granted, your description fits with most modern pop rap, but not the whole genre. And no other genre can tell stories like hip hop.
@Serenadesong13 жыл бұрын
@leeleebaby2100 Damn I wish that were true.
@rjam197415 жыл бұрын
What do you mean you can't tell stories with singing. That's totally insane. Some of the best stories came from the blues, soul and rock. Of course rap isn't all bling but don't put rap as the be all end all. Bob Dylan, Chad & Jermemy, Curtis Mayfield, Carol King, Stevie Wonder just to name a few tell some of the deepest stories though their singing. Oh, the Beatles and Burt Bacharach, who have had their lyrics/stories reinterpreted more than any other rock act in history
@henryhill9215 жыл бұрын
If you took a pole, you'd find that rap is a diverse enough genre that as many people listen to it as rock. You can't tell stories with singing the way you can by rapping, or use as complex wordplay. Its no all bling, cars and bitches, far from it. Listen to Lupe, Common or Nas, like lyric2go recommended. You might learn something

...I find its distressin theres never an in-between We either niggaz or Kings We either bitches or Queens" Mos Def "Thieves in the night" And the music behind this rap is just as Poetic. Rap is a world you have yet to discover, but it's cool. Columbus didn't recognize America either.

Quite a few people have lost alot of respect for rap. An why is attacking rap ignorant. There are quite a few ignorant rappers out there. Lets be real, when lyrics do nothing but degrade, it won't be long before people will attack it. Rap right now is the cocaine of music. There is a demand for it so it will be supplied. As destructive as cocaine is rap is approaching that level. And I strongly disagree that all rappers right their songs. Have you heard of ghostwriting.

Opinions are immunity to being told your wrong and you are most defiantly entitled to yours. ::goes to voice lessons singing Italian aria and Jazz standards busterth has never heard before::
@rjam197416 жыл бұрын
Okay, this forum went from Chad & Jeremy to the relevance of rap lol????? Wow, just get one comment and the original subject becomes passe. Look to even put rappers at the level of Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor and Issac Hayes just to name a few is outright ignorant. There are some decent rappers who can write but lets not get senile(sp).
@henryhill9215 жыл бұрын
Good rappers always write their own songs. Why would ghostwriters do that when they're talented enough to make their own songs? Elephantiasis? Besides, your view of hip hop is very ignorant. Sure, there is basic, destructive and stupid rap, but their is brilliant, powerful rap as well. You need to open your mind, mate. If you're game enough, listen to a great rap album, they're not hard to find. I've lost respect for rap, but behind all the stereotypes there's a great, deep genre.
@Renshen195716 жыл бұрын
I have yet to hear a rapper that created a Sgt. Pepper, a Dark Side of the Moon, a Night at the Opera. Rap lyrical? Rap may have lyrics but not lyrical by definition. I've listed to rap since the late 80's: Repetitively banal. Sorry, there is more to songs than a looped sample, unvaried rhythm tracks, a monotonous vocal line absent of melody and variety, over low drum beat blasted through a sub-woofer. As protest or street poetry, I'd say Rap is imitated worldwide, and is influential.
@henryhill9215 жыл бұрын
For something to be music it doesn't have to conform with your views. It's a different kind of music, and currently its recorded in more languages around the world than any other genre. These guys will never be remembered like the legends of Hip Hop, so quit being elitist about it. Do yourself a favour and open you mind, listen to Illmatic by Nas, Me Against the World by Tupac or ATLiens by OutKast and then say that again. Lyrically, these Chad & Jeremy are nothing. Yes, pop rap = shit.

Rap is crap. The only melody you will find in Rap is completely, 100% derivative, which is a nice way of saying stolen. Sorry, lose the ramp discussion, should not even be in the same breath as Chad & Jeremy.
