Thank you so much Sensei for all the teachings and guidance. Regarding the Juji gatame in randori, i had no idea it was disrespectful, it is fairly standard to continue in France, I apologise.

I don't understand this tradition. If both are black belts, everything should be allowed. A juji gatame is no more "disrespectful" than a harai goshi or any other technique. Don't understand this at all.

There is an obvious difference of level. At such point that chadi seem like a complete judo beginner. In general, the posture is not good at all and clearly too defensive. I have the same posture against opponents who have strenght superiority... but generally, it is against strong 90 or 100kg... (i'm 75, 78 kg weight)... i would say that chadi seem to have started judo quite elderly... in opposite, i'm quite impressed by the quality of his video and comments (despite a very few remarks)... and he is courageous... i have two times trained with japanese olympics... it was at the time if nakamura brothers, nomura and shinohara... they were bold... i had the pleasure to practice randori against tokuno who was 60 kg and me 66kg at that time... i couldn't do anything... So i understand his unability to overcome some good judo practitionners... We all have been in such situation. It brings you humility... Peace and train harder...

Outstanding video. Excellent, insightful analysis. I just subscribed with alerts. All these small considerations add up when facing a skilled opponent. It must have been very surprising for a judoka who is skilled by US standards to be so easily handled by the real experts. Respect to Chadi as well for his willingness to do this, and for his great channel. Also Chadi's humility and grace. He wore a black belt when he started, then a brown belt halfway through the video, then no belt at all in the end.

At times it seems like Chadi completely forgets the basics of good Judo fighting posture and balance, and his reactions are very awkward. They were going very easy on him, not applying much strength, and still most of the time he is with terrible posture - straight legs, bent over with a posterior pelvic tilt and rounded back, crossing legs while moving, etc. I'm a white belt in Judo (but I've trained and competed in Muay Thai for several years) and even I know that there are fundamental concepts much more important to know before you ever even get into throwing. There were a couple of times where they manage to get him to the ground with just pulling/pushing, without even doing a throw. That should speak enough. I don't know if it's frustration from fighting against someone that much better, but I think the fundamentals should be there regardless.

The way you look in a randori also depends about the skill of your opponent. I am an experienced and quite "passionate" 3th dan judoka and i know that i don't fight the same when strenght superiority goes to my opponent. The same when looking Ono fighting in the superclass category for instance: you must restart everything from scratch...

@@christianmichon1940 absolutely right. In every discipline. I remember years ago watching an amateur get destroyed by a chess expert. I thought the amateur couldn't play well. I played that same amateur afterwards and he beat me. That taught me a life lesson I still keep in mind today.

This is for future advice for anyone wanting to go train in Japan. Even at highschool level. You need to have it in your head that they are all semi pro. Training 3 hours a day 6 days a week, maybe 7 if competition is on. Have a goal set that you want to achieve in those sessions that you have. For me it was first to get a usable grip. (They will not let you have it. And if you do, you have seconds to use them.) Then it was use the grip to go in for an attack. This was a week later. Then gradually go from there. Just to survive a session is a waste of your time.

Chadi is trying and that is good! But as you said to loose grip on Tori gi. Not the grip to much of loose fabric of the gi. Therefore no movement transferred to Tori. As no movement is transferred Tori has still it's balance and not going anywhere. Trying to throw someone with no direction of their mass is a fools errand. Majority of the throws of Chadi had him on the move and indirectly off balance. Then secret weapon no 2 of the successfully throws were done with a combination. So Chadi is not only wasting his time on laying down on his back. He is sacrificing also time to learn/training a proper combination(s). When there is no combination that starts with tomoe nage and is then followed up with... It is the other way around first a attack of X/Y then maybe a yoko tomoe nage (if he still want to incorporate his favorite move). So again the first attack/setup attack is there to get Tori off balance and start to move him. Then attack no 2/3 will have a much greater chance to succeed when Tori is moving and having a momentum in a certain direction and somewhat already off balance. But great sparring and looking as much fun!🎉❤ (Remember that a attack that put someone off balance. Is creating in time a window of opertunity. That 0.1 second they need to reestablish their balance. In that timeframe they are sitting ducks. Because they can't attack you when they are of balance. Try yourself by leaning backwards so you get slightly of balance and now try to perform a o uchi gari.. you notice that you can't! Not before you regaining back your balance THEN you can start your attack. That is why combinations is a must and all OS gold medals have one thing in common.. they all won with a combination.)

Tomo->juji in tachiwaza randori I think is a cultural difference. It wouldn't be seen as particularly rude where I am (also europe). The commentary comes over quite brutal, it may be a cultural/translation thing. Otherwise I do enjoy these videos, I would like to see more randori analysis.

Grabbing and throwing is fine. A Judo master threw me on the ground several times. Back then i was into Karate (no longer today, i have developed my own style). I told the expert: i got nothing on you when it comes to Judo. The next time you attack me, i will defend myself..not Judo style, win chun style. The demonstration ended there. One should not boast their skills as superior..
