I prefer the traditional kodokan japense judo myself however some variations as we all know came into focus starting around the mid 80s that seemed to come around slowly over the years with different styles with the updated rules and regulations also, not sure on everyone else's preference. I was only very very young child at the time, but I remember my step father Harold Forshey, The world war 2 sensei for the American forces I advised your channel about talking his dear friend and our Olympic Bronze Medalist Ed Liddie of of the 1984 Olympic Games Yoko tomonage for the first time. I myself never met Ed on a personal level as they were adults and It was not until in the 90s with I was selected for the USA National team before Ed Liddie became my team captain under sensei Phil Porter before I had the honors to get to know Mr. Liddie. Sir, So that you know, My former student, Christina Vasquez, former silver medalist of the World Games and my former National Team Team mate and gold medalist, Diana Maganero who both had the experience training under Harold Forshey will heavily promote your channel as a thank you for doing this for my mother. I will be happy to get in a 4 way discussion with you all if you would like. Most likely I could get Ruben Felder, former bronze medalist at the world's, Felix Roder, Deuy Mitchell , 1984 Olympian who was trained by our other World War 2 sensei Ed Maily also as he still lives locally to me. Ed Liddie and I still keep in contact today and recently invited me out to his home in Colorado Springs as I am also close to his wife Tammy Liddie, former Alaskan state champion and National team member also. I do have some very strong friendships with all these judoka who highly respects my family and have social media. Ed Liddie was the head coach for the 2012 and 2016 paralympic team. If you wish to communicate with anyone of them for judo video promotions, feel free to let me know and I will be happy and honored to speak with them on doing so. Now I am very close dear personal friends with Kayla Harrison and Rhonda Rousey (and two other recent Olympians and one other world medalist, former team mate, Jose bescome) and spend time with them yearly but they never had the opportunity to meet my step father unfortunatly before his passing but I can talk to any of them for you to speak with you also. Judoka tend to support each other so if you want to organize with any of them, I will make this happen for your channel.

Hey Chadi, I would be very interested in a vid about "French judo vs Japanese judo" if there is such a thing. I could be wrong but in my limited experience in randori with French judoka, I was under the impression that there may be a dinstinctive flavor. For example, I could be wrong but I noticed that the grip fighting was very aggressive and tended to favor fighting from a distance, with a predilection for foot techniques and classical throws like uchi mata and seoi nage. Is there some validity in my observation?

You often mention Kosen Judo Of all the techniques invented by Nanatei Judo, which is a direct descendant of Kosen Judo, It's Harazutsumi that has had the greatest impact on Judo under the IJF rules 'Cuz this has been one of the motivating forces that pushed Japanese female players to Become dominant in Judo Newaza

Chadi my man!! Thanks for your advice from last time. I decided to stop pushing to learn wrestling just cause it is popular and decided to go with Judo and Jiu Jitsu instead I will try to master (or at least become decent) at both Judo and Jiu Jitsu. Like drilling and drilling and perfecting them. I strive to go to ADCC and win as well as go to MMA in the near future. The idea that judo is not good for MMA is nonsense. I will show the world it can work in no gi just as well as wrestling. Fedor, Ronda, Khabib many show the power of judo and many more have proved it. I will prove it as well. Appreciate you chadi for these videos!

@@Chadi actually both can work on the side too so the distinction is a bit harder than that , I think it's better to distinguish them from how the knee is used on the dropping side , if the knee is pulling down when bending and back it's uki otoshi, if the knee is bending towards the corner to the side of the opponent's leg while stepping with the heel its sumi otoshi.

Is there a variant of "Judo" that goes to submission/tap, rather than Ippon alone? I realize BJJ is "basically just judo". However, they have all but eliminated take downs and throws, while Judo has all but eliminated ne waza and submissions. "Stand-up BJJ" of some sort would be ideal as Ippon alone, isn't intrinsically superior and being a one-dimensional guard puller is equally absurd. Of course, the problem is the "sportification" of martial arts. Once it becomes a "sport" the cheating, gaming the system, a hyper-specialization create something that is unrecognizeable and somewhat useless. This is the one thing that Aikido has been wise to avoid. Of course, the lack of "innovation" is the price they pay, but the older I get the more I appreciate that it's not so much what art you do, so much as that you're doing it at all. Thanks for all the amazing content Chadi! I hope the International Judo Federation is kissing your feet for bringing so much interest back to an amazing art. Cheers!

Chadi I like your content but that is the first time I have constructive criticism. Please avoid using terms like "they have to resort to Japanese expression" actually Mongolian judo is also very technical and uses as little strength as possible. I think it's not fair for the great technician of Mongolian judo like Khashbaatar etc. That was the first thing. The second is: is it a fact that women tend to favour ne waza more than men? I could imagine that a lot of women aren't that explosive with their techie waza and that's why a lot of throws don't end up scoring upon but eazari or a plain takedown and that's why they resort to ne waza but I am not sure. You are an academic did you look up the numbers or how did you come to that conclusion? Or was it just a feeling you got by watching a lot of women matches?

It's an undeniable fact that women prefer Newaza to men If you've been watching the World Judo Tour a lot, you'll notice such thing soon Here are the recent data 2015-2019 Newaza Ippon wins and losses at the Olympics and the world championships *Japanese women 58 wins 1 loss* *mongolian women 17 wins 9 losses* *chinese women 15 wins 9 losses* *french women 15 wins 14 losses* *brazilian women 13 wins 10 losses* *Japanese men 21 wins 0 loss* *french men 14 wins 5 losses* *mongolian men 13 wins 3 losses* *Georgian men 12 wins 5 losses* *Russian men 11 wins 3 losses* *brazilian men 9 wins 4 losses* This should tell you that female players, especially Japanese women are by far the strongest And their main weapon is Osaekomi, not Submission They prove that Osaekomi is the most useful weapon, at least in Judo Newaza Their continued dominance on the ground with Osaekomi has remained basically unchanged since the 1990s
