Interim championship only means placeholder of undisputed championship when the undisputed champion is absent. It does not mean the real Championship is disputed. Most champions are disputed by contenders but this one has a belt that says "while you're not fighting me, you're disputed as a champion because of this belt, that says I'm a champion too". Interim means a time between something being appealable, which will continue to be appealable until Jon fights Tom. It's literally like a medieval civil war within the heavyweight division. There's a dispute between two different leaders and only one can come out on top. Just because the original leader defeats another random lord, it doesn't mean that the other king is going to give up his crown because of that. It ends when one king defeats the other or abdicates his throne.

None of these fights really dispute Chael's point since they were all interim champ vs undisputed champ. Not undisputed champ vs another contender instead of the interim. For examples of that where the interim champ isn't stripped you'd have to look at Big Nog being interim champ while Randy and Brock fought or Robert Whittaker being interim champ while Bisping fought GSP
