Which chain do you think has the best fish sandwich?

I used to work at Captain D’s from 2016-2018 and I love their fish sandwiches and couldn’t resist them. Heck, I even got the opportunity to try The Southern Style Flounder Sandwich in 2023 last year. It was scrumptious. I have also tried the Cajun Catfish Sandwich, though.

Last year, I ordered from Wendy's online and got two fish sandwiches and fries and onion rings with two drinks, which was paid for by credit card. When I went to pick up my order, I was informed that that location didn't have fish sandwiches. They had the nerve to bring me the drinks and sides. I even had to go online to get my money put back on my card. I've never gone back. Luckily, there was a Popeyes close by and their fish sandwiches were really good.

Most of these restaurants are not available where I live. But I do enjoy the crispy fish sandwich from Arby's.

Arby's Crispy Fish is quite good. I only wish it was a regular part of their menu, not a seasonal item.

Culvers recently came to our area. I ordered just a piece of fish. My new go to for fish!

When I worked for Arthur Treacher's, they had a decent sandwich but they are now out of business. This year, I'm going to taste test as many fish sandwiches as I can and pick a favorite. I actually loved Mickey D's filet-ofish but it's smaller now and there's more bun than fish. 😮

Culvers has the best fish sandwich I've ever eaten. I need to try Popeyes & Captain D's!

We live in Mid Missouri and Culver's is right down the street. The cod fish dinner and sandwiches are absolutely THE BEST. Lightly battered, delicious cole slaw, killer fries, its A+++ around. Coincidentally, they're right next to Arby's. Which has a decent sandwich but it's Culver's. 😏

I haven’t had it in a long time but the Checkers fish sandwich was my favorite by far.

I can't tell you the last time I had a fish sandwich but I am surprised Long John Silver's is missing from this list.

I live in New Bedford Massachusetts, which is a huge fishing port. Fresh seafood is a way of life here. No problem getting delish fresh fish sandwiches in this town at the many non-chain places.

Wendy's has a good fish sandwich when it's available. That's only about 1-2 months out of the year. McD's has reduced the size of their fish sandwich by 20% while increasing the price. I'm going to try Bonefish. Didn't know they had a fish sandwich like that.

I’m surprised that Long John Silver’s didn’t make the list-my most favorite fish and seafood place! But I also think that Arby’s is my favorite out of this particular list.

The only way I have found to get genuine wild caught cod or any fish that is not a switch and bait or a substitution is to buy direct from fisheries like in Alaska that advertise it as such. One source I have used is Great Alaska Seafood where you can order direct online or even call them. Once you taste the fresh shipped fish from there you will know the difference and find it is worth the extra cost. They offer specials that come up thru signing up for their e-mail notifications and large quantity bulk prices. There are other sources in Alaska that do same as well, but make sure you are ordering fresh wild caught products from there.

Culver's fish is my favorite! The only one better is their Walleye fish, which unfortunately, was only for a limited time. Hey Culver's! PLEASE bring back the Walleye sandwich!!

Culver’s fish cannot be beat. The only comparable if you’re lucky to live in the area come from Frisches, my fav from childhood.

Culvers also has Walleye during specific times.

I love fish sandwiches any time of year but especially during the Lenten season. After hearing praises for the Culver's fish sandwich, I tried it and was very disappointed. To me it seemed like it had been under the warming light all day. Have never gone back but maybe I should give it one more chance.

I wish there was a Culvers in my area.

While I am a big beef and meat lover, I always go for a fresh fried fish sandwich before a juicy hamburger. Or maybe both! LOL!

I love a good fish sandwich. I do not frequent quick service restaurants, but I have always thought Wendy's was the place I would go for a burger. I guess I need to try their fish sandwich.

You didn't mention Long John Silvers but I'm pretty sure they and Captain D's are owned by same corporation. Both restaurants are similarly set up but for the year I lived in Colorado and got the chance to experience Captain D's I did prefer them over LJS.

We've has Culver's, Arby's, MacDonald's and several others. We like the A&W fish sandwich the best.

I've had McD's fish, and it's good, but damn it is pricey!! Some of the chains listed here are regional. Here in Oklahoma City we don't have Culver's, Captain D's, Checker's/Rally's, or Bonefish Grill. Long John Silver's has combined with A&W Root Beer, and throughout the entire OKC Metro there are only three of them. We used to have Captain D's but they disappeared, ditto for Arthur Treacher's. Never been a fan of Whataburger, didn't know they had a fish sandwich, I'll have to try it. Wendy's is good, wish they carried it year round. Burger King has one, it's okay but nothing to write home about. Our Sonic chain used to have a fish, but it was discontinued due to lack of sales. It's now 1:30am and I'm hungry after all this.

Culver’s Walleye dinner is the best. When in season of course.

I like how Arby's has the 5 for $10 "Can you even believe it?" No I cant Arby's it was 5 for 5 back in my day.

Of all the ones mentioned, the only one I've had was the Arby's. I'm something of a fish sandwich snob and as such, tend to stick to the independents instead of the chains. I'm a picky diner when it comes to burgers of any kind and I don't like too many toppings which drown out the taste. Some of these look good, though.

You folk ought to do a video about foods with fry coatings containing Sodium Aluminum Phosphate/Sulfate. Aluminum and people do not mix, as an orally ingested item. I type this because most places put Aluminum baking powder in their fry coatings as leavening, when it's not and never needed. If doing so has to do with the Code of Federal Regulations, then it is well past time for that to be ignored.

McD's filet o' fish is the absolute bottom of the barrel fish sandwich. Greasy, lukewarm formed square patty containing 50/50 minced fish to breading ratio served on a soggy bun with a sliver of processed plastic cheese product on the bottom. And this was 30 years ago.

Culvers and Big Boy is the best for fish

Culver's is okay, but it's on the bland side. Some seasonings in the batter would fix that.

Lack of transparency is a big reason why people avoid fish products, including the ones you buy at a grocery store. The "switch and bait" and "artificial fillers" scheme is so common that you think you're paying for a $30 wild-caught Cod when in reality, it's a Tilapia farm-raised somewhere in Asia or South America in the most polluted sewageconditions and fed pesticide and feces ridden animal feed. I would NEVER trust any restaurant to use high quality fish, unless they prepare a live one in front of me + offer proof of sourcing from a wild-caught only supplier.

what the world needs is a good grilled salmon burger. Fast food places need to do it. Its a much healthier burger.

I am surpried you don't have the Burger King fish sandwich. I think it is as good, (if not better) than any of the ones on this list.

The best value by far, is Checkers. You get 2 fish sandwiches for only $4.50 (& used to be only $3, less than 2 years ago) verse McDonald’s, costs over $5, for just one very “small” filet-o-fish square.

Hardees panko breaded fish sandwich during lenten season is the best. Puts McDonald's filet o fish to shame. Cannot find the filet in McDonald's fish sandwich. Seriously, spend 5 dollars and see for yourself. Culvers and hardees hands down in upper midwest

I like McDonald's fish sandwich but I need two of them. I've had Checkers fish sandwich and it was super greasy.

Haven't tried Popeyes, wouldn't be surprised if it was the best one. I like Wendy's, but their fish sandwich has some weird rancid off flavor in the breading. The one at McDonald's is gross lol. Most of these other franchises don't exist on the west coast.

I tried the Culvers fish sandwich once. The fillet is a 1/3 smaller than in your video. Unless they have increased the size of the bun. Fish was lost in the bun. No Captain D's here unfortunately.

Hands down, Culvers fish sandwiches (and dinners) are the best. And second for me is Arby's. At 2 for $6 right now (lent season) you would be foolish NOT to try them.

They need to get rid of by season only and serve all the time. The same thing with breakfast, many times at dinner I prefer to eat eggs, quit telling us when we can eat certain dishes.

Actually these "seasonal" fish sandwiches coincide with the Catholic period of Lent from February untill Easter when Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays. Some people even give up meat for the whole 40 days.

My wife and I are very strong Pescatarians and I wonder what oil the fish is cooked with, that’s my concern.

ALL of the ocean fish contain mercury now. Including the cod, pollack, salmon. The test amounts are shown on the FDA's website. I quit tuna completely over 20 years ago, after they started putting warnings on the cans.

IMO no way should Wendy's should be ranked above Culver's.

I ate at Captain D'd twice: FIRST AND LAST time, and that was one visit. Can you say GREASY, boys and girls? I came away with nausea and diarrhea, but had to pull over along the road on the way home so my wife could vomit a couple times. Yep, good stuff that Captain D's grease bomb special. Never again!

Only fast food chains I know about of quality only serve fish sandwiches during spring Catholic lent time. The ones the serve year round, McDonalds, Burger king, are only ok.

Had a Wendy’s fish sandwich yesterday. It was horrible! It seemed like it was from the day before, dry, hard and nasty. Trust me, I am not a fast food snob. I was shocked to find so many people loved it. Maybe I just had a bad crew to serve me. Did not seem fresh at all. I will try it again next Lent Friday.
