Nicely done. Clear and concise. People complain that concepts like tire management are too complicated for a popular sport fan, and I point them to baseball and cricket and ask them to reconsider their position regarding the people's patience. Tyre management is interesting and it adds a dimension of---. I don't need to tell you. Please keep up the great work.

2:26 Since viscosity describes the friction between adjacent layers of fluid (rubber?) and not solids, I wouldn't say the tyre becomes more viscous but (if viscosity really is a suitable term in this context) becomes less viscous (i.e. softer, melty, malleable as you said) and the friction between tyre and street grows.

Good stuff. A heads up in case you are unaware. There is a great and easy to visualize model of tire dynamics. It's called the traction circle, and it's easily found. It's used in the games to model tire grip, and is a great visual learning tool.

Amazing video. You're chanel one of the best f1 explaining channels (and not only f1, how car work in general). Realy like every one of you're videos. Cheers from Russia, btw. And question: why f1 mechanics couldn't make maximum force of braking pads equals maximum tyre braking force? (ofc during the wear of the tire, the force will decrease, etc)
@LaggerSVK
@LaggerSVK 6 жыл бұрын
There are many variables during the race, temperature, weight, downforce, surface ... So making the brakes just to the current situation is not possible. The driver needs to feel the car and needs to act. Also car with downforce is deccelerating really hard at high speed (F1 around 5G) and can deccelerate only 1.5G at slow speed. There is a very big (window) of what brake pressure applied is actually good. I advise you looking into tire characteristic. The tire forces generated are dependend on side slip angle and slip ratio very nonlinear.
@GinoNL
@GinoNL 3 жыл бұрын
Marek Lagger weight and downforce are irrelevant to his question. Weight shouldn’t change(unless rain, where they should be able to correct through data). Downforce can be measured at any circumstance when doing laps on friday/saturday. Good question from original commentor, would like more of an explenation aswell.

Great breakdown. This is why F1 and other circuit racing motorsports are so exciting. Tire selection and performance alone can determine winning or coming in last, no matter how fast your car is. Its why I perfer one lap, time attack type racing. You got one lap to do your best time. You can run your engine at its max/highest hp on a set of always fresh tires. Granted it might not be as exciting spectating, but from a builder, driver standpoint, it is exhilarating!
