Chains SUCK unless you install a chain guide! OneUp Components V2 chain guide installation. Also, V2 chain guide with bash guard.
A dropped chain on my Trek Fuel EX sucked the chain up into the derailleur, jamming it into my carbon seat stay ($350), trashed the derailleur ($300), twisted the chain ($35), and bent the hanger ($30). If I had either of these on my bike it never would've happened. They're inexpensive and really easy to install. Plus, I think they look pretty badass on the bike!
Here are some Amazon Affiliate links to products featured in the video. Clicking on them costs you nada but really helps to support the channel. Thanks!

I was constantly dropping the chain on bumpy terrain after I went from a triple to a single ring and removed the front derailleur . The chain guide I installed is a savior. I haven't dropped the chain since installing it. Brilliant little piece and in black its hardly noticeable.

Nice vid brother. I have been thinking of installing one but on the other hand I’ve never had a chain drop. Not even once. Maybe I’m not riding hard enough I guess lol. But nice tutorial.

I have a Race Face Cinch on a 2015 LaPierre xR729 (xc, rear suspension, 100mm) with an Osymetric 34t...There seems to be only 2 mounts om the bike frame for a guard/guide. They are con-joined with the rear triangle. Is there a chain guide/bash guard that moumts to this?.... When the chain gets really dry, it starts falling off when I shift to 1st gear. Which guide should I try? The one-up or the absolute black? Will they even work with the osymetric chainring?

Would the 30t bash guard work with a 30t oval chainring? Or would I have to go up to the 34?

tip: you can use the absolute black chainring as a bottle opener., at least 34 and 32T.

You can use pretty much anything as a bottle opener 😂.

@@ZRMTB not on the cider bottles from the local juice and jam factory. But they switched to threaded on caps anyway. Buy i have tried various methods, the twont work only a bottle opener or chainring worked. But hitting bottle while holding it down to aa surface won't work, it might on less secure caps.

Great video! Helped out a bunch. Question did you use a torque wrench or is nice and tight good? Also did you use one washer on the top nut and bolt? I’m like you and have a little over centimeter of clearance. Thanks a lot.
@TrailBreaker
@TrailBreaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Buck!. Each bike is different. My Kona had good clearance and needed spacers for the guide. The Trek was REALLY tight. No spacers and I actually had to install a washer behind the bracket on the bottom bolt to bring the guide closer to the seat tube.

After the next time, man, you will install a chain guard for the spokes. It's even cheaper.

How to save $700 in damage- maybe try taking the rear wheel off before trying to gorilla yank your derailleur through your spokes??

Meh. Don't need it. I've been running Shimano XT 12-speed drive train with a RaceFace narrow/wide chain ring for the last 6 months and have yet to drop a chain.

do you mean shimano is better than sram and it will not dropped any chain??? see his components he has a better components than your so called XT and RACEFACE chainring but still suffering from chain dropped.. it is not the brand that counts, it is a preventive measures.
@miaclydedelacruz1844
@miaclydedelacruz1844 10 күн бұрын
as a matter fact i don't have any expensive drivetrain on my bike like you do.. eventhough my components is cheaper so i dont have any chain dropped ..so don't tell us you are using XT and RACEFACE .. CHAIN DROPPING makes no exemption whether cheap or high brand parts.. i use chainguard as a prevention.. AROGANT!!
