I bought a used Still O28 that was 10 years old. Old enough that it had no kickback bar. I used it for 5-6 years and then got it stuck in a falling tree which bounced and crushed it. I took it to my still dealer down the road and $90 later I wad back in business. I had that saw for 30 years and I bought a much smaller stihl. After I left the old O28 sitting in my shed for 10 years I was going to toss it aside figured it would be junk as it still had the original gas mix in it and had just sat. I took it out poured the gas out put fresh mix in it. 3 pulls and it started right up. I used that saw for another 10 years and my brother still has it. These were and are great saws.

My 500i fell out of the back of my pickup going down the highway a few months ago. Some lady taking her kids to school in a low profile minivan behind then ran over it.the kids are fine, the lady is fine, the mini van are all fine. Thank god theyre making roadkill chainsaw proof minivans nowdays.

"The trigger doesn't work." I think the proper terminology is, "the trigger no longer triggs." Oh, I've done goober stuff like that. It reminds me I'm no superhero!

Well Mr. Wilson. You’re not alone in getting distracted while logging. I did the same thing just this spring with my skid steer. Fortunately for me being a wet spring, and of course being a tracked vehicle I pressed the saw down into the soft mossy ground. My heart sank anyways when I realized what I had done and like you, some minimal damage in slightly warping the bar. A little work in the bench vice and I managed to salvage the bar. Whew! Anyways, regards….. Larry from the Shuswap, BC

Those saws are tougher than they look. Hard to imagine one surviving skid steer tracks if the ground wasn’t soft. Thanks for watching from BC.

Don’t know anything about the 462 but I’d keep an I out for intake damage that can cause a small air leak. 400’s are notorious for having delicate intake manifolds but they are apples and oranges I suppose. As we get older learning how to laugh at oneself unfortunately seems to be an ever increasing important skill! lol 👍🏼

Almost a year later I haven’t had any problems come up. Good to know in case I do. Actually it may have been more than a year. Another problem with getting older, we lose track of time. 😁

We've all been there! Minor damage can be repaired, shrouds/trigger locks can be replaced. Chalk it up to a "teachable moment" ... Maybe rig up a plywood sheath mounted on the winch to carry the chainsaw out of the way? Stay safe! From a fellow (sometimes) distracted small forest manager in Linn County.

There used to be a plywood chainsaw scabbard mounted to the side of the canopy. A better place to have it than the winch. It eventually rotted and fell apart a while back. I haven’t got around to replacing it yet. One problem with that tractor is there’s nowhere to put anything. Thanks for watching in Linn County. I always appreciate your comments.

@@WilsonForestLands You can make a rot-proof scabbard from a length of 3" diameter PVC or ABS pipe. Warm it up with a torch and press it almost flat. The rest is easy to figure out.

Im glad that it did not cause more damage. Im in Alaska and the forest fires are really burning.I think it will be smokey all summer here. Heading to Cambodia Sunday to join my wife.we will live there permanently I learned a lot from you, thanks.

Smoky summers are no fun. It’s been that way here the last few summers. Hopefully we don’t get it this year. I usually go to the coast to escape when that happens. Alaska to Cambodia, that’s quite a change. Thanks for watching, I’m glad to hear you’re getting something out of the videos.

Impressive that the wrap handle wasn't damaged. Or did that part not get run over?

Man sure glad that Saw wasn’t total lost. That sure was a close call. And to answer your question yes I’ve done a crazy mistake just like that. My wife bought me a brand new stihl 461 and the very first day I used it for the first time. The tree I was cutting down fell back onto the Saw and bent the brand new 25” bar and twisted the chain and busted the cover and broke the brake handle off. Oops !! Glad yours turned out ok. Thanks for sharing.

Years ago I had an old 038 that had something similar happen. The tree tipped the wrong way and crushed the powerhead. It was a big tree and broke too many things to want to fix it. Fortunately it was an old saw. It was a valuable lesson when I was learning how to fall timber.

Wow, that must be a big relief, may be having low pressure in the rear tyres helped, the tyre deflected around the saw a bit🤔

Bu99er. Always the new saw, too when it's your own kit. Working fixing saws, I've seen this sort of thing a lot. Run over. Squashed by a tree - the one being felled or another one. Dropped out of a MEWP. Dropped out of a tree 'cos the op was using his pukka lanyard to tie up his dog and had a bit of blue polyprop on the saw and the granny knot came undone. Dropped in a pond whilst running - that didn't end at all well. Chopped into when it got stuck and the op borrowed a mate's saw to cut it free. Still, keeps me in work. Some of the stories that accompany the poor saws are entertaining. Well, nobody got hurt. Mostly. Possibly worth noting that Stihl and Husky and other builders of 'pro' saws use high specification, high strength plastic. Some of the Chinese ones I've seen, the plastic seems to be more frail/brittle.

Lol, you came out better than I did. I put the loader bucket down on my 026. Had to replace the top handle. Other than that nothing else wrong. Still have that saw.

After that happened I was thinking I am glad it was a rubber tire tractor and not steel tracks. A week old saw, that’s even worse. I am sure there are a lot of stories out there of people running over saws.

I'm no expert, but I thought there was more play in the carb than there should be. Like maybe one of the mounting bolts broke? Just a thought. Glad it still runs and isn't a loss.

O shit, sorry about that miss hap. Just a few weeks ago I had a similar situation. I had my bran new Ms 461🧡 out next to my log pile while I was loading logs with my old Lull telihandler & had a good size log took out my hole handle & tank assembly. Something good did come out of it , I got two new saws for back up lol. A pretty pennie latter/ Ms 661 & a 500I 👌👌🧡🧡 Yes they were able to get my 461 fixed ($250 bucks later) 😆 I thought, just like you, that saw is in a questionable spot / move it!!!! I ignored myself & paid the price heavily lol I will listen next time My wife & you are the only two I've told 😉😅😅😅😅😂😆

We all do "unfortunate" things. (sounds better than dumb, right?) I'll say that I've NEVER run over a chainsaw with my tractor. It was the trailer behind the tractor so it doesn't count. It was a Stihl, too. Dave
