In "Fluffy", Taryl goes over a common problem on these Makita/Dolmar chainsaws that mimics a carburetor problem but really it's the ignition coil. He shows you what it sounds like with the problem and then goes over how to properly fix the issue step by step. So watch the man in action!
Before and After the lesson, Junior acquires a stuffed hand-puppet named Fluffy and starts noticing all the coil wires are being chewed on and nests being built under every engine cover. Is it Junior? Or Fluffy? What's going on at the shop?! Check it out here for the full spooky story as Taryl's month-long Halloween extravaganza starts October off right with "Fluffy"
And as Taryl always says... There's Your Dinner!!

The way to diagnose this problem is when I tried to adjust the carburtrator it made no difference in how the saw ran thus telling me the problem is in the ignition. Plus I have seen this problem before on other pieces of equipment and knowing that some coils have a ignition advance built into them. The way that works is from RPM.When the piece of equipment reaches a certain RPM internal electronics advances the timing. Theres Your Dinner!

That’s the nice thing about Echo equipment. Their “ignition modules” are warrantied for life. If it fails you get a new one but I don’t think the labor is included.

I loved the way Jr was looking at the puppet as he was talking. I know a lot of people like the outtakes but I kinda like the story to just stand on its own without breaking down the fourth wall. But always 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 regardless.

Taryl, I just have to say, that you have helped me so much with many small engine problems. Your work is very much appreciated. You also go the extra mile and show how to do things with homeowner tools and give handy tips. Just wanted to say THANKS! I just go a Husqvarna lawn tractor with a Hydrostatic Trans, and you video was awesome. It's just too bad it didn't come with drain plugs. I'll have to do some surgery on her at 50 hours.

Tech tip Sunday, when tightening screws in plastic, turn the screw backwards while lightly applying pressure. When the threads "align" you will feel a slight click. Stop when you feel the click then tighten as usual. This helps prevent constantly cutting new threads. Good job guys! My cats take out Fluffy....

I have had so many issues with fluffy that I finally added checking the amount of air coming from out of the cylinder head (32hp Vanguard) as part of my start up procedure. After starting and at idle I put my hand under each cylender and "feel" for the air coming out. I have been doing this so long that I know when it's "not enough" and I need to remove the inspection housing and get rid of fluffy's nest. Thinking about getting a cat for the shed.

True, but that's more common on equipment that isn't run at full throttle often and/or equipment running rich or with too much oil. So less probable on a chainsaw that has a clean exhaust and runs as well as this dolmar.
