Mot Sure if you read these, Jordy, but don’t discredit yourself. You do an amazing job. This video is the best one for explaining the sprocket, the bar and the gauge. Thank you.

I suffered a TBI and had both arms ripped off at the elbows, then reattached…(that shit left a mark!)…. I began power carving and making wooden flags and concealed firearm cabinets I bought an echo cs 490 a year ago to cut firewood….but I’m getting into carving now…. And Brother, you and I are cut from the same politically incorrect cloth! Fuckin’ love it! Subscribed!

First off, i think you are a little hard on yourself. Most importantly, watching some other carvers i wish they would have made a video just like yours. I'm grateful you took the time to explain this! After wanting to get into this and listening to others without explaining like you did here, i was so lost. THANK YOU!

Everything on point bro. I also suggest the 170 for a beginner. Good, cheap, light weight saw. That way you don’t invest too much in case you don’t like it.

Thanks Jordy! This video really helped me as beginner! I asked my local shop for a Stihl 140 model to be mounted with the dime nose carving guide and 1/4 inch chain and they told me the sprocket is different compared to other models that take a carving bar (i.e. the 200 model that comes with a carving bar) and that it can't be done. Didn't seem right to me since the sprockets might have more or less teeth but they are both for 1/4 inch chains and 0.043 inch driver link gauge bars. Did my research and verified this through specs from online and your video really confirmed my hunch that the shop employee had it wrong! Great video here Jordy! Many thanks :)

Hey Jordy... very good explaining!!! Here in Germany you can buy the Echo with the Carvingbar. I think 12inch?? (30cm). Its called 2511wesc... i started with the ms170 and a cheap carvingbar. I did maybe 7-8 sculptures and the Tip of the bar now sucks (enough chainoil and loosin chain of course). For the beginning it was nice. On my ms150 i got a 8“ Cannonbar.... the best. My Grandpa said: „for cheap tools we are too poor“. You re great... a Man with a big heart !!!

Thanks for the video Jordy. Stihl 170's are less than $180 usd at my local Theissen's store,so I bought two. Ordered a 12" cannon carver 1/4 tip kit for one of them and it's supposed to be delivered today. I've been using the stock bar thus far with decent results.

Well done, i was contemplating putting a carving bar on a nice ms200t, ???, as i have a bigger husky for blocking if needed, thought now is go with the battery saw, or that smaller 170, i were ear plugs but hate the noise, your opinion is most valued. Carry on

Thank you for this excellent tutorial video. I need some help here. I just got my carving bar and chain. But I am not sure if the sprocket (it is 1/4 inch) I got is okay because the supplier marked it as MST 150. Can it fit my ms170? I am eager to start sir.

Great timing for the video Jordy and lucky me, i chose the right saw! Its not got a carving bar but i thought i'd get used to it first and do basic cuts for now and if i like it i'd eventually get a smaller saw with a carving bar, sound reasonable to you? Thanks for explaining, this crap with numbers is not for me either!

Hey Jordy….I want to add a light weight dime tip electric/corded detail saw to my shop. Like you the number/model/confusion stuff drives me nuts. I’m looking at the Mikita corded saw, or the sthil, possibly an Oregon electric? None of them appear to be set up for detail carving….so I will need to mess with the numbers and all the choices. Any specific recommendations? Thanks, by the way this video one’s help, even someone like me who has sucked too much 2 stroke smoke!!!!
