i'm catching up on TTD matches, and Dan i'm gonna come at you again but this point at 20:35 is the perfect exemple of what you shouldn't do. you should keep playing with the backhand to fix the opponent and then you can pivot to the forehand if you have a winner shot opprtunity. otherwise stay in the middle and keep throwing some backhands at him. try to go down the line but keep your position to avoid an out of position situation like the point ended in. you just offered him the opportunity instead of taking it from him. you have a good backhand block that can change direction, so do it! make it move on the other side to create the opportunity to land a winner where there's space. here you pivoted just for comfort and you offered him the opportunity to kill you. you reaaly need to lose that habit to pivot for nothing. you always open your extreme forehand when you do that. you'd need to be Ryu Seung Min to catch that. come on Dan!! get out of your comfort zone! try stuff with your backhand! cheers

Hey, Dan. Well done attacking that diagonal corner against Phil in sets 1 and 2. I like seeing that. Keep working at it though. Get it to where you can absolutely hammer the ball with that forehand from almost any incoming ball in that relative area. Get it to where you can paint the corner too. But, you need to know learn how to read when your opponent is trying to get you to hit that ball. You need to learn how to anticipate them trying to get ahead of that ball and you need to see them out of the corner of your eye, then change direction of the shot, even though you're already starting to swing. The key is to make your forehand attacks to the diagonal corner start exactly the same as the forehand attacks to the inside out corner. Then, you can change which corner you're going to hit it to mid-shot. If you can anticipate them trying to cover that diagonal corner, and you can hit it completely the other way, it'll be a clean winner and they'll be going completely the wrong way. When you do this before they can cover your diagonal attack a single time, it's absolutely demoralizing for them. Then, they won't know where you're going to go. Therefore, you can just start picking your spots and catch them in the middle and back way too far all the time. The only other thing you need is a more fierce diagonal backhand. I see your technique. Try getting your racket up above the ball and make contact over the top of the ball with your same backhand technique. I think that should sort it. I also should tell you that the style you're now playing is exactly suited to a Hurricane 3 Blue Sponge (boosted about 4 times) on the forehand and a 37 degrees Hurricane 3 (boosted twice) on the backhand. I promise you that if you were to change to those, the way you're playing would instantly be enhanced in a major way.
