After all these years it's hard to beat the looks of the Challengers. I think the first ones I ever saw were on farms around Havana, Illinois.

Used to be Norris Farms near Havana always had huge equipment and was kind of f a proving grounds for a lot of brands , so you are probably right ! They flooded all that bottom ground and turned it back into a swamp , government project!!!!!

FIrst time I've heard about a tractor with an engine with 7 cylinders, when the tractors you are usually filming have inline 6 engines, or occasionally an 8 cylinder engine

We use a 1990ccs John Deere air seeder to seed our winter wheat and oats. Our John Deere 8345R pulls it. We have for our high horsepower tractors 1- MT875E & 2-MT865E's.

I am always amazed the gravity seed wagons don't turn over because the center of gravity is so far up in the air. I know it has to be that way but it looks as if the things would really be so top heavy in a field with changes in elevation would make them dangerous.

Does the rear of the drill not fully raise out of the ground when at end rows? Looks like it drags rear press wheels when the operator is turning around

In a few generations they'll need a Kinze grain cart to fill those tanks on the drill. On this one that auger would make a bloody mess though haha

Hear the surging as well. Maybe the flow rate needs to be adjusted on the tractor side? I didn’t see a monitor showing singulation/rate per acre. I’d like to have seen that.

So basically the farmer is using the winter rye as a cheap fertilizer and organic matter as well as a cover crop to prevent soil erosion by tilling it back into the soil instead of harvesting the grain. I’m kinda confused as to why they would not harvest a crop and leave the stubble the same as with wheat. I understand the cover crop angle but if your gonna plant a crop why not harvest the grain as well.

This is not harvested for grain. It is used to keep the hills and slopes from washing and rutting. Rolling it in the spring makes a good seed bed to stop any washing in the new grain crop and to reduce weed growth. If they harvested it for grain they would miss the corn planting window.

I've been looking for a video of the 7-cylinder engine at work. But the exhaust is so silenced that it can't really be heard over the noise of the hydraulics.

How long has Sunflower made seeding equipment?

They have offered grain drills since the 1980’s. Air seeding equipment for about 12 years. This particular compact air drill was introduced in 2016.

It's built in Finland by Sisu Diesel. They have all of the specs on their web site.

I have no idea. It seem to have a surging noise that picked up when the machine slows down.

It is an odd sound. You could not hear it in the cab. The drill was brand new. I am not sure if it needed some acres to get going ?
