I'm tasting Costco's $20 Kirkland brand Champagne against America's most popular Champagne, Veuve Clicquot.at $65. I taste them side by side, give my thoughts so that you can make an educated buying decision this holiday season.

Kirkland Champagne is actual French Brut Champagne. You can't beat $20 bucks period. Keep the Veuve and have an extra $45 bucks for dinner or gas.

I tried KS Champagne a few years back and found it harsh, unbalanced, and for $20 thought that there are better sparklers out there (e.g. Gruet). In case that's not clear, I didn't like it, LOL. As a bit of background, I know Champagne very well (have had over 100 different ones, NM, RM, CM, etc.) but don't consider myself a wine snob (KS Chianti @ $9/bottle is an incredible value; there are other KS wines and liquors I also enjoy). However, I've heard that KS may have changed producers over the years so perhaps I'll give it another shot next time I'm at Costco.

Picked up a bottle last week and popped it over the weekend. It was.... OK. Definitely better than what I remember. Incredibly acidic at first but mellowed over the course of the evening. Went well with the salmon we had. By the end of the night, both of us were saying "You know, this is good." So thanks for the push to try it again! Interestingly, I'd never run across the "MA" producer designation on a bottle (have had NM, RM, and CM bottles before). Had to do some digging to find: "MA (marque d’acheteur): These are sold as their own but don’t they don’t produce it themselves."
