Had the same issue with my 2000 watt champion... It wouldn't even run the converter in my RV without going into overload... You're right about Champion too.. Even though my generator was long out of warranty they sent me a new control module free of charge..... I had to laugh when you pointed out forgetting about the rubber cushions... I had mine all back together when I noticed I left the cushions on the old module. lol

Thanks for the video. I have the same Champion 3400 generator that I use for boondocking with my 25ft Rockwood Mini lite. The single15000 BTU AC kicks on and runs just fine with this powerhouse. I have noticed that if I run the microwave while the AC is on that my generator will overload so we know not to do that anymore. But very happy with this Champion 3400 Inverter generator.

This is great information, thank you. I never had a problem running my microwave in my RV with my 3400 but at the end of summer, it just started to overload and stopping.

I agree. I have 936 hours on my remote start 3100 w inverter Champion generator and it never as never let me down. Just change oil every 100 hours and change plugs and air filter as needed. Good service and fast parts delivery. The only thing I wish is that it was a little quieter or that more aftermarket exhsust kits were available to make it quieter. Mine will run our 15 000 BTU A/C unit in our TT and the microwave at the same time when we do use it.

Thanks! This video was very helpful for a different reason for me. I thought I would be smart and buy 9Ah instead of the recommended 7Ah one that came with it. The 9Ah was a just about a 1/4" taller and I thought "No Problem" that will fit (no way).. I had to remove the controller/battery frame and modify it. Now I have to go find an oil leak on this thing and I have less than 10 hrs total from new. (Never again a Champion for me) Thanks Again and "Appreciated"

I spoke to them yesterday because my 3100 watt has no AC output and the guy was very helpful, he pointed me to their documentation for diagnosing and replacing the control unit which I think I fried.

Have a generac 3400watt. Was heated up when my rv burnt few years back. It produces power enough to run ac. Am concerned about safety though. When you showed that mother board I no doubt compromised it in some way as that end of generator was very hot. Enough to melt switches

No switches were melted, The module actually looks like new..It just put out less Umph...

A compactor is a must on things. I'd check on your new ac unit as we'll. I say the gen us a tad low since you'll drop watts

I suggest to have little to no issue down the road is to get a 3.5kw pure sine wave inverter one that can handle bought load use undercoating to seal the components from vibration

Hey great video man, wish I had seen this a few months back! After working on the electrical panel, I couldn't tell where the blue and white modules mount. You didn't happen to see them while you were in there?

Sorry, I don't recall seeing Modules that needed mounted, I dont have remote start maybe thats what you see? I would call Champion they are great to deal with

in your experience , are most 301cc generator motors like that found on the 5kw champion, do the blocks come with provisions to install a stater motor? and are flywheels with the ring gear for a 301 cc going to mostly all be the same?

You have an 18,500 btu A/C? That is very very uncommon size for an RV.... I would think you would need an East Start installed..

Well actually I'm not sure we actually talk to three different people. I'm not sure why everybody thinks that having a KZfaq channel makes a difference with the kind of service that you get. I've mentioned that we've had a KZfaq channel when making purchases and requesting service at certain places and sometimes I don't mention it and I'm pretty sure that it just has to do with somebody's attitude and not being a jerk and just asking honest questions.

@@Rvdaydream If they are just normally generous, that'd be nice. But I hate to think abot what it's gonna cost them to repeatedly hand out $200 boards (and other stuff) , if that's what they are doing. The most generous business people I know, didn't manage to stay in business by marketing sub-grade products and then going above-and-beyond to cover any problems. Am I saying Champion power products are sub-grade? Well, at their price level, it's hard to imagine that they are AS good as Honda (which I do not own).

Well believe it or not most of these manufacturers have a certain percentage of repairs and parts that are automatically authorized. Meaning with no fault , no reason needed a customer will still get what they need. Walmart is kind of the ones that started that years ago. So there are businesses that actually do that and have been for years and are still quite successful.

I have a Champion 3100 that is about 4 years old, barely more than 6 hours of use on it. I run it probably 4-6 times a year for at least 20+ minutes which probably isn't good or enough. I pulled it out 2 nights ago when it was warm out in Michigan, and attached a 6 amp electric pole saw to it and ran the saw for about 15 seconds and then nothing. The saw would not run, no other devices, the saw is fine, but I have no AC output at the panel. The Champion support team said I should look at and replace the control board which is about $200.

You may just try to call them back and talk with them again and ask if there's any possibility that this is still covered under a warranty of some kind. They were really good about sending me the control module for no charge, but maybe my unit wasn't quite as old at the time. It's worth a shot. But for $200 it may be worth it. The problem with a lot of these units are kind of like the same situation as trailer tires. Although the trailer tires on a RV May Look like brand new. And have a lot of tread on them. And have only been driven. Maybe 2000 miles over 5 years. But the exposure to hot and cold just over time. Causes them to fail. Usually electronic circuitry it's better than that, but it does live in a harsh environment when the generator is running with vibration and sometimes exposure to moisture. And of course the heat of the engine.. Good luck.

I know it’s been a while since you worked on this but do you need to remove the control board to access the carb? I’m trying to get the carb out to clean it and it looks like a mess of spaghetti in there. We have the 3100 watt electric start you used to have. If you don’t remember, I understand. Lol.

No, you don't have to remove the control board. I know it's tight in there and it's kind of a jigsaw puzzle where one piece has to be removed before the next one. But, you are correct, I don't clearly remember. Lol

Sorry, I do not have the service manual. Did you attempt to contact Champion directly? Sometimes it's hard to get through to them however once you do they are very thorough and are willing to help

Hi, it is possible that the generator provides power but the control unit is not provided grounded output and therefore certain electronics don’t work?

You would have to talk to Champion Direct. They have great customer service.

Quick update, I had same problem and called customer service and they flat out refuted that they would provide parts outside of warranty. They charge 179 for the control unit. I own two of these champion generators and this one failed with approximately 150 hours. A big old anchor. I am moving on to a Kubota 7000 diesel generator with a big old fuel tank. Can run everything in our Airstream for a long time on one tank and have a track record of getting 7-10000 hours out of them

Well, you know the say, One Bad Apple don't spoil the whole bunch. Champions still have a lower price point and they are definitely more neighbor friendly than a diesel. But, if noise isn't an issue and you don't mind a couple different types of fuel then that might work

Ok I am technical engineer on inverter and I know the only part will stop the Serge from from going into overload is the current limiter the current limiter can adjust to a low Serge or it can be the mosfet back too or the company's use cheaper mosfet that's cant handle the Serge

@jessebridges2281 it’s voltage drop tremendously only three components can cause the issues--one the pwm driver did programming with a voltage stabilizer sensor code to adjuster the power level shifting voltage on sensing load to increase duty cycle of the mosfet to take in more amperage for voltage increases at load start up or the gate drivers current not enough to open the mosfet for more amperage to pass to increase voltage or the pcb copper line no enforced with enough soldering wire to allow 100 of amp to pass so that’s the only thing causing voltage drop not saying all on those issues you have but maybe or one

Most champion generators if you go to the support section of the website for Champion they have manuals listed there. I don't know how much of it's going to cover repairs though it's just going to be most likely parts

You can pretty much use any of the generator manuals that are available if you can find a torque spec. Even the Honda or Predator that would be fine too they all got to be real close to the same

I have a 3500 watt Champion Dual Fuel Generator purchased at Cabelas. I have the very same Coleman 15k a/c unit that you have. My generator runs it fine on propane. Yours has a problem.

Mine is a 3400 watt not 3500. It did have a problem, That's why I replaced the Control Module.

3500 watt and the 3400 watt is the exact same generator I talk to champions customers service they told me cabelas wanted to hype the spec on the gen unit .Champion said they rate it for the average elevation for us citizens were cabelas wanted to pushed the upper spec on the unit and it also cut out them having to price match the generator with other competitors selling the same generator because there different model numbers now.

Most likely it's the float in the carb.

Sometimes I see people using extension cords to get power from their generators to their RV's which are of a gage which is too small. Or, they are far too long. Use the shortest possible cord, and buy the heaviest one you can afford.

Ahh, I think I was just over a year when they sent me a replacement. I just gave them numbers off of my unit late somehow knew how old it was

Hi I have a question for you ..My 3500 Champion dual fuel, I lost my output 30amp voltage tt30 connector on the generator. I pushed the reset but nothing happens. My meter reads only around 60 volts. What do you think problem is? Is this something like your controller? Joe

That is a possibility. Definitely contact Champion Direct. They are great at taking care of their customers so hopefully they can come up with a plan. If you hit the reset and it's not doing anything then there might be a control module issue. Good luck!

@@Rvdaydream I did see the other video first. I thought this one was going to be the .... "this controller fixed the booth units running at once." overload problem. Then it cut to the overload light. Just thought maybe since you were on an editing binge something might have got switched. But....I digress. BTW I get paid $26.50 an hour on layover to watch your videos, so that makes me a professional watcher! 🤣🤣😂🤣😂
