Lenihan and Norster were the unsung heroes of that tour. They may not have had the loftiness of Ackford and Dooley being a couple of inches shorter but they were more polished. Superior line-out technique and gaining those yards…they’d toured previously and had a real calm, assuring presence on the pitch. They knew the stakes of these matches a bit better….a maturity that I think went a long way in securing that series win over the Aussies…excellent choices by Uttley

Unluckily for the Aussies. We had some right hard Gits in that Lions team. Teague, Calder, Richards, Dooley, Moore, Sole, Young, Ackford. Plus the Hastings brothers.

That tour was particularly exciting because it had the right blend of young guns and grizzled vets. Uttley put guys in there who you would think were over the hill but very quickly proved otherwise. They rose to the occasion and hurled absolutely everything including the kitchen sink at the Aussies....Chilcott being no exception.

@@YARROWS9 Teague was the first of those explosive back rowers that you could probably slot into 6, 7 or 8 while Calder was a more traditional openside...not the biggest man but hard as nails and had unbelievable ability to read the game. Donal Lenihan and Bob Norster stood out to me the most for some reason, didn't quite have the loftiness of Ackford and Dooley but made up for it in other ways...very mature, reassuring influence on the pitch...outstanding operators in the lineout as well...just technically brilliant
