“We’re appointing a temporary dictator until the situation is resolved,” said every nation that very soon after had a permanent dictatorship. Tripotentiatiary is a very cool title though. Good for Weepe. Also, it seems like Kozma might be forced to take direct action against the Trust now. Seeing as how, as per the appendix for 3x1, the Baronies United were founded specifically to prevent the spread of dictatorships.

Tecnically for a while the Roman Republic had a lot of success with short term temporary dictators that actually all stepped down when the crisis was over. Until one guy didn't step down and they changed the name to the Roman Empire, but before that it worked nearly 100 times according to Wikipedia.

Absolutely horrifying implications from that baby who has Valor. This implies that you could accrue Caenum from the moment you're born for...I don't know, not coming out fast enough or something stupid like that?

This is true and confirmed (give or take. you can also inherit Valor or have it given to you by your family. Which For example the Miravette twins from the episode Gala from season 1 To quote "It’s well-known that they came into their Valor through inheritance. Very old money, if you like, due to some ancestor of theirs doing a favor for some well-placed member of the Upper Trust back then in the olden days, and the family has pretty much been riding the wave of wealth and increased interest ever since." I know way to much about this show...

just now reading the headline of an article in bay area // health: "parents stunned by infant's $97000 air ambulance bill that insurer wouldn't pay". not so dystopian a concept after all. this is usually the kind of deal the actual devil would offer to someone in a work of fiction. essentially "i can save your child, for the price of eternal debt and servitude. do you agree?" just the system working as intended, i guess -.-

Wow being fired is bad enough, but being forced to give everything you own to your successor, including your house, is just insane. Also I love that baby on the train with the sunglasses and valor beads. They look like a baby rapper.

It technically doesn't say his house went to Weepe, only that it went to some other Upper Trust member more deserving of it then he is. It also doesn't say where his Valor went, but given the circumstances around Weepe's ascension there's only one place it could have gone.

When I heard in the last episode that Spahr was in that 'his account can take a hit', I had a feeling that he wouldn't get off scot free. Seeing how this is going now just makes me feel bad for him... and wonder what else is going on. Imagine if Phineas saw his old mentor, stripped of everything that made him... well, him

remember that when Phineas "lost it all" Spahr had an empathy toward him and his situation. he didn't want him to be in breach nor did he want him to accumulate caenum for his deeds, but he just couldn't go against the entire trust and its systems to help him, but now that he is in Phineas' same position but still part of trust society, he's basically become a "backdoor", a potential traitor who, if he sees Phineas, will now understand exactly how he feels and will be inclined to help him or even follow in his footsteps of breaching.

@crisscrossam I dunno. Spahr's fallen pretty far, and he's starting to have twinges of doubt, but he's also only just fallen into debt. He hasn't really seen how rigged and unjust the system actually is for those outside the Upper Trust. I think there's still too much trust (lol) in the overarching organization - he's not ready to turn traitor *just* yet. (Though, admittedly, an open conversation with Phineas, as "equals" instead of superior and subordinate, may make quite a difference on that front...)

@@rosevanzeeland904 that's what i'm saying. Spahr has been disgraced, especially for a lot of events outside of his control and him failing to contain it (despite that being quite the ordeal) and the entire time even before he fell into debt he was doubting the system. His debt despite being one of the 3 individuals running trust society has him ready to eventually want out when he gets the chance.

Oooof... poor Spahr. Didn't think they'd tank his Valor so hard to end up with that much Kynum. Also, Weepe as dictator for the Trust? Definitely nothing going to go wrong with that. Wonder if Lark will end up with another Upper Trust murder on her sheet before this is all done.

@@abaddonarts1129 I think Imelda donated valor to Weepe, they mention that he received donations from upper trustees as well when announcing him. So her losing valor would still be seen societally as.. valorous?

The music over Jedediah's speech is unbelievably moving, a fairly foreign sound to Midst, but no less welcome. It hasn't left my mind since I first listened to it on Wednesday. What a great episode.

OOF. Painful to watch, as much a jerk as Spahr has been at times. I really have to wonder how Imelda places so much trust in Weepe and how she knew how his transformation would turn out? She had talked about "calculations" before but it feels like they must have some sort of semi-supernatural (Taeror?) based thing that sees the future to a degree? Also I thought Spahr was going to be left with a golden parachute of sorts as per tradition...turning him into an indebted seems to be a revenge angle.

Another great episode! Big fan of The Trust presumably using Jedidiah's retirement to coverup the crowd's negative reaction to Weepe taking over. I'm thrilled and terrified to see where this is all going! The art showing everything kind of, happening around, Spahr was a good touch too.

I took his words to have a very different meaning, a meaning that he obviously didn't intend and yet could work as a valid meaning all the same: The Trust is where its people is, therefore, the people can leave all this behind and abandon their inefficient, self-preserving leadership.
