Extend the life of your water heater by simply changing/replacing the anode rod on time. My hot water heater is 21 years old an on its fourth cathodic anode rod. I show how simple the replacement task is, regardless if you have a magnesium or aluminum anode rod. It's the same for a zinc anode rod. Viewer tip: if you have smelly water you might want to replace your anode with a zinc anode. It's helpful to have a good breaker bar or an impact gun. Hot water heater warranties are largely based on having one or two anode rods. You can buy the MUCH cheaper single anode rod heater and change/replace the anode rod every 5-6 years. This works for all brands, including AO Smith, Maytag, Rheem, GE, General Electric, A.O. Smith, Whirlpool, Richmond, Bradford White, State Industries, Kenmore, Suburban, Stiebel Eltron, Navien, Ruud, etc. Water heater anode rods are a very good thing and a great way to keep your hot water heater protected. Tools required:
-1 1/16" socket
-1/2" impact gun or breaker bar or large socket wrench
-Teflon pipe dope
-A new replacement magnesium (typical) or aluminum anode rod. My replacement was 32" for a short 40 Gallon water heater.
